ITR - The Auto Dropouts - Sweden ITR Review

New band, the Auto Dropouts from Sweden contacted me recently and sent me their new CD 'Still Waiting for Yom Kippur'.
The Customs Cleared package arrived just before I left to go on another interview; I was late but couldn't leave without the curiosity of another package from overseas. I was not disappointed.
I hurriedly ripped off the cellophane outer skin, how I hate cellophane, I can never get it off without difficulty and frustration but what was inside?
The cover was almost covert in its appearance if anything underplayed almost Japanese influenced modernistic graphic of a girl in thought and another or the same looking back over the thought they'd just had?
Engine started, mission underway CD into player and bang... straight into the first song, instant Myrna Minkoff - the Auto Dropouts don't do things in half measures.
Here’s Myrna Minkoff see what you think….
Sharp and to the point in quality mixing, everything in its right stereophonic field with some unusual sound effects which pleasantly surprised me as I drove into Glastonbury. I’d finished track 3 Decon as I parked. My mission an interview in town, I got there just in time to meet Barnaby Hodges our photographer for the pics.
A little later job finished and ready to return I turned on the ignition wham straight into track 4 Drop the Bombs – I’d forgotten the CD in the player.
By the time I arrived home I’d stopped to have a listen in one of the laybys and the tracks went by one after the other - It’s All Over – Waiting (for everything to come) – She Ain’t Gonna Flip Burgers – the title track Still Waiting for Yom Kippur and finally Throw Em To The Lions. Brilliant combination of styles and changes – I didn’t feel fatigued but refreshed when I finally got home and unpacked my recording equipment.
The Auto Dropouts as a band were formed in January this year in Stockholm, Sweden, with a background “a bunch of songs…” recorded by Jesper Eriksson; who then asked some local friends to come and sing in the studio.
I like this idea, what I call co-operative co-operation, similar to the Ethos of InTouchRadio.net ‘A Co-operative Collective’.
The resulting feedback from such legions of the modern music world as Garageband.com, Shadowglobe, Band for the Day and MySpace was overwhelming and the news about this newly formed band spread far and wide circumventing the world.
Paul Benham – an Englishman in America put his vocals to one track ‘It’s Over’.
A debut album with these strange ingredients had been released by Jesper but only in Sweden during the summer of 2007.
Following this Scott Cryer from Canadian band ‘Dirt Farmer’ did vocals on a number of the songs.
The good vibes kept coming in and Auto Dropouts were gaining 4 out of 5 in a lot of the musical papers, in fact they’ve received good acclaim all around the world.
The album ‘Still Looking for Yom Kippur’ is being played now in countries as far apart from their native Sweden as UK and New Zealand, Asia and USA, not bad for just a few months exposure.
At present the band are in, what they call “Rehearsal Mode” and getting ready to go on the road.
Tune in I’m sure you’ll find their new album well worth getting.
