"There are few people that affect me on first meeting - in the moments before I was unexpectedly introduced to Billy I felt affected. It was through my new friend Mo Fini of Tumi Music (www.tumimusic.com) that I was introduced to
John Hollis, Billy's and Asere's Producer, they were talking and Mo introduced me - when he said this is Billy Cobham's Producer and that Billy was just a few steps away preparing for the Billy Cobham/Asere JazzWorld stage gig I cautiously asked if I could just say hello. John looked me pensively up and down, smiled and said go ask him...
Billy's driver pointed me in the right direction and I put the recorder into record/pause mode, flicked the switch.

What transpired was an introduction to not only a hero of many years of mine and an inspiration to just about every drummer from the 1950's onwards. Not only was Billy approachable but he was courtious, gentle and loving and absolutely full of humour and laughter and I might add - a Glastonbury Apple Muffin or two.

There was this completely professional and yet inspiringly open man talking openly about his life and work and showing no signs of the normal musician before the huge JazzWorld stage gig he was about to perform just a few minutes away, if he hadn't been hurried away I think he'd have been happy to talk openly and sincerely for as long as it took.

I was, and will always remain a avid fan of this man and hope one day not too far in the future to be able to get
together again and discuss the days when we grew up and how music has changed from those openly experiential days when I feel music was music and not the expected music that recent years pushed us corporately into; it is only in these past recent years I can see an opening back into the consciousness of true music - the music that is the language of the Soul and our Human collectiveness."

Billy Cobham & Asere have a new album only just released - it is beautifully arranged - culturally interwoven with the rhythms that are Cuba, Panama, Spain and South America.
