Dear Michael,
Can you spare 20 seconds in the fight against biofuels?
You were one of thousands of people who helped the RSPB in February by registering opposition to current UK biofuels policy. Your letters to the Transport Secretary, Ruth Kelly, helped trigger the Government to announce a review into its own biofuels policy - the results of which should be announced this summer.
If you remember, the reason for our concern is that biofuels are meant to be a good idea in the fight against climate change but in reality some biofuels risk massive damage to precious wildlife habitats, increase food prices for some of the world's poorest people and even increased greenhouse gas emissions.
We are currently taking the fight to Europe. Important decisions are being made in Brussels in the next few days about how much biofuel companies will be required to supply in the next ten years. The RSPB, along with a wide range of other environment and development groups believe that it will not be possible to meet the current proposed 10% target for biofuels without having a devastating effect on the world's ecosystems.
We need to influence public opinion and we have an opportunity today!

Swedish Study Finds that Cell Phones May Increase Brain Tumor Risk

OREBRO, SWEDEN — April 7, 2006 — Talking on your cell phone could be hazardous to your health, according to a new Swedish study. The researchers found that heavy use of mobile and cell phones increases the risk of developing brain tumors, especially high–grade tumors that take more than 10 years to develop. "Heavy use" was defined as over 2,000 hours in a lifetime. The risk was highest for young people under the age of 20. One of the authors, Kjell Mild, suggested that the way to decrease cancer risk was to use a hands–free phone (Boston–Herald, April 4, 2006).

During telephone calls, the brain is exposed to radio frequency signals that are emitted from the cell phone. In the study, brain cancer risk was higher for tumors on the same side of the head as the exposure to the radio frequency field. The researchers pooled the results of two of their studies about brain tumors that were diagnosed during 1997–2003.




Nine hundred and five patients with brain cancer and 2,162 controls with no brain disease took part in the combined studies (International Archives of Environmental Health, March 16, 2006).

The results conflict with earlier reports, including one done by the Dutch Health Council, that found no relationship between cell phone radiation and brain cancer.




A UK study concluded that there was no substantial risk of brain cancer in the first decade after starting mobile phone use, but did not rule out an increase in risk after longer term use (Br J Cancer, 2005 Oct 3;93(7): 842–8).

Brayton Purcell is now evaluating potential cases involving brain cancer and cell phones.

Within 9 days 2 major natural disasters occurred in Burma and China.

Burma: Saturday the 03th May 2008 Cyclone Nargis hit Burma, estimated death toll and injured over 100 000 human beings, animals, an estimated 2 million more people facing death, hunger, diseases and injuries due to lack of responsibilities from the military regimes following the Cyclone. 18th May 2008 Burmese authorities: death toll 78 000 people and 56 000 still missing.

China: Monday the 12th May 2008 a massive 7.9 magnitude earthquake hits China’s Sichuan province, confirmed death toll as for Tuesday the 20th May 2008 40 000 people and a further 245 000 injured, estimated death toll could reach 70 000 and more people.

Far too many people have lost their lives and a further estimated 2.5 Million survivors suffering in need of food, water and shelter, many could face death through acute malnourishment in Burma.

Taking the spiritual/universal aspect into account: both disasters happened at number 9 due to each date of disaster strike: 9 + 9, between 9 days: completion of some sort, the number 9 to my own understanding represent change and also growth, it’s the humanitarian number; the 9 9 9 completion or ending of a big phase underlined with a 4th 9, that took my attention.

My main aim is to raise an understanding for the urgency of what is going on worldwide as well as in Burma and China from a spiritual angle to see WHY disasters of that calibre are happening.

Burma’s main energy sources are OIL and GAS, ring any bells???; also timber, teak, marble, gem, seafood, coal and nickel, in other words, Burma does have many natural resources to feed and provide for its own population but the country is desperately poor. 32% of the population lives well below the poverty line, the rest are only just above it and only very few belong to the rich elite. Why?, because of the military regime.
The regime does not apply enough education, food, housing resources etc for its people, reason being is to keep the people on a low profile but most of the Burmese people's main focus is just to have enough to live a half way normal life and feed their children and live in PEACE. Far reaching goal and aim for many years.

Nature strikes in those areas over and over again, this time it was worse, mother earth has had enough of all this “bullshit” and is trying to balance herself, which also and sadly means to take care of overpopulation (oh, and this does NOT mean that we, here in our cosy environments won’t feel the effects of her cleaning process, we are responsible for this mess too and will have to take the consequences one day if we do not wake up ....FAST).

In a way it does have to do with Karma but not in a way the majority of people talk about Karma, there is no reason WHY a little child/baby has to suffocate and die a terrible death under gravel, that child does not deserve any of this; the reason to my understanding is, that nature, mother earth is trying to teach all of us vital lessons for so many centuries, the majority still have not learned how to care enough for one another.

Why did all this hit Burma and China so hard, one of the reasons are those natural resources, the power that this gives to just a few to manipulate its people to known facts. Unfortunately many innocent have to suffer and lose their lives, think why Burma is under military regime, think why most UN help is refused right up to this day....that would blow a huge cover up.

Here are some facts to underline what is going on right now and why I bought the numerology and spiritual/universal aspect in.

Cyclones (Hurricanes/ Typhoons) are types of low pressure systems formed over the oceans and western pacific; tropical cyclones are an important part of the atmospheric circulation system, helping to regulate the earth’s temperature. The reason for their intensity as we have seen recently is the rise in heat in the oceans which makes them stronger and stronger. The sun heats the ocean up to a certain degree that creates the condition of the cyclone; therefore cyclones are also known to release stored solar energy that rotates.

Earthquakes are the Earth’s natural way of releasing stress that causes permanent changes in the Earth’s crust. The entire surface of the Earth is covered by tectonic plates. Those plates are moving, rubbing against each other in some regions, or spread apart from each other or sink beneath each other in other regions. The plates can stick together while the rest of each plate is in constant movement that causes eventually an enormous strain and erupts as an earthquake; there may be further movements too, aftershocks following the event. There are hundreds of aftershocks right now in China, to my understanding far too many. The rock masses are trying to settle down in their new position, that is causing the aftershocks; which brings me back to the spiritual/universal aspect and numbers 9 = completion/ending of a big phase. Earth is trying to repair itself naturally after centuries of ‘abuse’.

What does that has to do with Burma and the Cyclone? A lot in my eyes, Burma as I mentioned before has many natural resources. Fact is that over the decades China has increased economic and military cooperation with Burma, billion dollars trades, billion dollars arms and military technology were supplied to Burma to strengthen Burma’s military junta.

Mother Earth knows and she tried so hard to open our eyes worldwide, can’t you see what REALLY is going on.....going back to the numbers, can you see now what I meant at the beginning of my article by counting the dates and what meaning the number 9 holds? The shift is happening in front of ALL of our EYES worldwide, it is “Harvest Time”; many souls returning back “Home”. We as human beings had many warnings over the years/centuries and yet we still allow that our earth is ruled by the wrong folks, whoever they are....it’s time to LISTEN now and use our capacities and capabilities we all have, to use our brains, minds and most of all hearts to do the right thing to counteract, also with love, it is so very easy, just look at those governments, regimes etc, a few using manipulation, mind games etc to hold the masses under control, what do you think they are doing??? 50 million people and a handful of military ....THINK......exactly, so if we all do the same in a positive/ reversed way for the good of mother earth and us humans with pure intention and a pure heart....WOW, that’s all I can say.....so WAKE UP

It is an interactive, universal play for a very long time; each thought under universal laws are counted, be it positive or negative. Achievement of control in a negative way for decades on end, the balance was disturbed over and over again, Mother Earth receiving the ‘waves’ that have been stored inside her now releasing even stronger to raise and wake up to the Truth which seem to be still denied by most humans. She cannot balance herself and all matters concerning our planet anymore without our help. We store all information’s from beginning of existence in our minds and DNA. To use that knowledge in the right way, we have the power to change and heal.

I have theories I am working on concerning earthquakes (backed up by leading scientists) that could may be helpful in preventing such a major quake/ disasters in the future but have to consider that we cannot prevent all Earth’s cleaning process as this is vital for releasing stored immense build up of energies, we do can help to minimize and balance those energies the right way using high frequencies, sound, waves etc. and our minds by understanding the universal connection between Earth, human beings and all that is on, inside and around Earth.

Update: May 28^th 2008

China has suffered thousands of aftershocks right up to today. Aftershock sequences can last for years after a huge earthquake. Tuesday the 27^th May 2008 a magnitude 5.2 quake was registered followed just 30 min later by another magnitude 5.7 tremor that has contributed to the fall of 420 000 homes. The official death toll as for Wednesday the 28 May 2008 has risen to 68 109, a further 20 000 still missing. Million people have to be evacuated. 35 quake lakes formed by the tremors in within days, the rock masses still trying to settle in. To my own understanding, underneath China deep within the earth there is a huge water reservoir present, due to the aftershocks and movements from the enormous rock masses the water is gradually released into the formed lakes, holding right up to now 50 000 Olympic swimming pools, the water level is rising constantly and with each tremor more is released, flooding can occur any time. I have seen this happening in my vision, now again this was confirmed.

Major leylines and earthquake lines are linked together, Earth’s matrix, all is linked with the universe itself, orchestrate by vibration energies, high frequency, waves, sound, electromagnetic fields etc and the planets, moon and sun. Earth’s aura is damaged as we know; the shift leading up to 2012 has begun a while ago, Earth trying her best to balance, we cannot hold the process back but we could prevent a major catastrophe worldwide with the knowledge we already have to hopefully save many lives. This is urgent right now, the number 9 was no coincidence and I hope that scientists around the world will work on the theory to find fast the right frequency needed, in the meantime we can help with positive thoughts and healing energy towards Earth, another form of vibration energy that was confirmed to be working in many aspects over the years....let’s do it together.

Final negotiations are underway right now in Dublin, Ireland on a treaty to ban cluster bombs. Arms manufacturers are pushing governments to riddle the treaty with loopholes and delays -- and the final text will be decided in the next 48 hours.

Cluster munitions don't just kill during war. They scatter small, shiny, unexploded "bomblets" on the ground that hold their deadly charge for years. When children pick them up, they are often maimed or killed. Most governments agree that these weapons should be outlawed, but back-room pressure is rising to undercut a strong ban.

The impoverished and vulnerable Burmese people were not warned by their military rulers. As a wall of water swept the lowlands of the country, as many as 100,000 were killed and 2 million more lost their homes. The survivors continue to face hunger, lack of medical care, and the threat of epidemic and deadly disease. Burmese Military Junta Stops Aid As military rulers stop aid at the borders, monks come to the rescue The world rushed to deliver aid -- but Burma's rulers stopped relief workers at the border. Incompetent and suspicious, the ruling junta feared that a foreign presence could undermine their power by bringing greater awareness of their brutal rule. Three weeks later, a donors’ summit has been scheduled that may reach a compromise on some aid being brought in, but the needless delay heaped daily suffering on Burma's people. Our Response -- Go Around the Junta The General Secretary of the International Burmese Monks Organization makes a video appeal for help from Avaaz members Since last year, Avaaz has built a strong relationship with Burmese monks and civil society groups, building political pressure and raising funds during and after the democracy protests. After the cyclone, we worked with these groups -- the most respected and trusted institutions in Burmese society -- to do what their government would not: bring the people aid. Unlike governments, we didn't wait for the Burmese government's permission to send help. Avaaz members in 124 countries stood with the people of Burma, donating almost $2 million (1.3 million Euros) in a matter of days. Getting the Money In The map above shows locations where our aid has been received and deployed It's been a challenge to the get such a lot of money in. Most Burmese groups can safely move only a limited amount of money each day through informal networks. So far, we know that $550,000 has arrived in Burma and been spent, and an additional $1,000,000 is en route and may have arrived. We are currently working with the International Burmese Monk Organization and 7 other Burmese organizations, including monk groups, educational groups, and medical clinics, who have asked not to be named for their own security. The way the money moves is through informal transfers between bank accounts and by hand. Sometimes it is as simple as a deposit in one country that is then withdrawn inside Burma by the account holder and then carried to a monastery or aid group. Because many merchants do this, the Burmese government cannot tell the difference between commercial funds and aid money. How the Money is Spent Emergency aid supplies bought with Avaaz donations are distributed to a village Once the money arrives and is distributed to aid groups and monasteries, it is used to purchase rice, medicine, fuel and other supplies required to rescue, house and feed the survivors of the cyclone. Even in many of the hardest-hit areas, local markets are still working, with merchants bringing goods from other regions. In other areas the monks and other groups are able to drive supplies in, or move them by foot. The map at left shows some key locations where our aid has reached survivors. This work carries some dangers; Burmese junta has harassed and, in one case, attacked the groups we are working with. But in the vast majority of cases, soldiers simply arrive, warn our partners that their work must be authorized by the government, and leave. Once they are out of sight, the aid work continues. It is a challenge in such circumstances to exercise complete oversight over how the money is used -- most of the work is in secret. But we have chosen to work only with the most universally respected institutions, and we have asked them to provide detailed lists of monasteries and groups who receive it. These details allow us to verify receipt of the funds.

Ants swarm over Houston area, fouling electronics By LINDA STEWART BALL, Associated Press Writer

DALLAS - In what sounds like a really low-budget horror film, voracious swarming ants that apparently arrived in Texas aboard a cargo ship are invading homes and yards across the Houston area, shorting out electrical boxes and messing up computers.


The hairy, reddish-brown creatures are known as "crazy rasberry ants" — crazy, because they wander erratically instead of marching in regimented lines, and "rasberry" after Tom Rasberry, an exterminator who did battle against them early on.

"They're itty-bitty things about the size of fleas, and they're just running everywhere," said Patsy Morphew of Pearland, who is constantly sweeping them off her patio and scooping them out of her pool by the cupful. "There's just thousands and thousands of them. If you've seen a car racing, that's how they are. They're going fast, fast, fast. They're crazy."

The ants — formally known as "paratrenicha species near pubens" — have spread to five Houston-area counties since they were first spotted in Texas in 2002.

The newly recognized species is believed to have arrived in a cargo shipment through the port of Houston. Scientists are not sure exactly where the ants came from, but their cousins, commonly called crazy ants, are found in the Southeast and the Caribbean.

"At this point, it would be nearly impossible to eradicate the ant because it is so widely dispersed," said Roger Gold, a Texas A&M University entomologist.

The good news? They eat fire ants, the stinging red terrors of Texas summers.

But the ants also like to suck the sweet juices from plants, feed on such beneficial insects as ladybugs, and eat the hatchlings of a small, endangered type of grouse known as the Attwater prairie chicken.

They also bite humans, though not with a stinger like fire ants.

Worse, they, like some other species of ants, are attracted to electrical equipment, for reasons that are not well understood by scientists.

They have ruined pumps at sewage pumping stations, fouled computers and at least one homeowner's gas meter, and caused fire alarms to malfunction. They have been spotted at NASA's Johnson Space Center and close to Hobby Airport, though they haven't caused any major problems there yet.

Exterminators say calls from frustrated homeowners and businesses are increasing because the ants — which are starting to emerge by the billions with the onset of the warm, humid season — appear to be resistant to over-the-counter ant killers.

"The population built up so high that typical ant controls simply did no good," said Jason Meyers, an A&M doctoral student who is writing his dissertation on the one-eighth-inch-long ant.

It's not enough just to kill the queen. Experts say each colony has multiple queens that have to be taken out.

At the same time, the ants aren't taking the bait usually left out in traps, according to exterminators, who want the Environmental Protection Agency to loosen restrictions on the use of more powerful pesticides.

And when you do kill these ants, the survivors turn it to their advantage: They pile up the dead, sometimes using them as a bridge to cross safely over surfaces treated with pesticide.

"It looked like someone had come along and poured coffee granules all around the perimeter of the rooms," said Lisa Calhoun, who paid exterminators $1,200 to treat an infestation of her parents' home in the Houston suburb of Pearland.

The Texas Department of Agriculture is working with A&M researchers and the EPA on how to stop the ants.

"This one seems to be like lava flowing and filling an entire area, getting bigger and bigger," said Ron Harrison, director of training for the big pest-control company Orkin Inc.

A renewed Six Nations blockade of a southern Ontario highway is pushing residents to the brink and is paving the way for a repeat of violent clashes between protesters and town residents, the mayor of the beleaguered town said today.
As the Opposition calls for the Ontario government to immediately break off all talks with Six Nations until the roadblock comes down, Haldimand County Mayor Marie Trainer said some Caledonia residents have already talked about taking the law into their own hands.

The frustration comes after Six Nations protesters closed the town’s highway bypass to show support for their fellow aboriginals in eastern Ontario. After more than two years of living with the Six Nations occupation of a former housing development in the town, Trainer said people have had enough.

“This shouldn’t be allowed,” Trainer said in an interview. ....Enough is enough. Something has to happen. This nonsense can’t continue.”

In eastern Ontario, provincial police removed a roadblock today, set up by aboriginal protesters on a rural road near the town of Deseronto.

The protest escalated on the weekend when police arrested Mohawk leader Shawn Brant at a traffic stop. Two officers were injured and a cruiser window was smashed after Brant’s supporters rushed to the scene and clashed with police.

The Highway 6 bypass around Caledonia remained blocked today by Six Nations protesters who say they won’t remove the blockade until police back down around Deseronto. The blockade was enforced by over 100 people, along with fires on either side of the road, Trainer added.

In 2006, the bypass, the town’s main road, and the rail line were all blockaded after police raided the occupation site. The weeks that followed saw a number of clashes — some violent — between Six Nations protesters and Caledonia residents.

The renewed blockade is now forcing motorists to go through Caledonia, straining a heritage bridge which is up for repairs in a few weeks, Trainer said. It’s putting even more strain on residents, some of whom have gathered near the occupation site to discuss taking action on their own, she said.

“I don’t know what to do,” she said. “I’d have a sit-in in front of the prime minister’s office or the premier’s office if it would help. I don’t know what to do anymore.”

The tensions come just one month ahead of a planned aboriginal day of action. Although the Assembly of First Nations has called for a peaceful, lawful day of national rallies and marches on May 29, some militant factions — including one led by Brant — used a similar day of action last June to shut down highways and railroad lines.

In Ottawa, Indian Affairs Minister Chuck Strahl said the federal government is working hard to settle outstanding land claims through negotiation and “dozens of meetings with chiefs and councils.”

The federal and provincial governments are currently negotiating with Six Nations protesters in Caledonia to deal with the land claims and end the occupation.

But Strahl said illegal protests are troubling and don’t help the First Nation cause or those at the negotiating table.

“I encourage those negotiations to continue — work with the community liaison officers and others,.... he urged frustrated Mohawks near Deseronto and other aboriginals elsewhere. “But taking matters into your own hands is not the Canadian way and it’s not a legal avenue.

“When people break the law of course (the police) are going to intervene.”

Ontario’s Aboriginal Affairs Minister Michael Bryant said the province isn’t considering issuing Six Nations protesters an ultimatum, despite criticism that the Liberals are tacitly encouraging frustrated aboriginals to break the law.

It’s up to police to manage protests like this one while the government focuses on resolving the land claim at the negotiating table, Bryant said.

“If there is no negotiation taking place and the parties aren’t talking, then how on earth would progress be made?” said Bryant, adding everyone from Caledonia and Six Nations is frustrated with the situation.

“We continue to monitor the situation as the police continue to make decisions about keeping the peace.”

But critics say the Liberals have set a dangerous precedent.

Progressive Conservative Leader John Tory said the Liberal government has allowed the situation to escalate by tolerating law-breakers in Caledonia. The government should suspend talks with Six Nations and send a message through the courts that blockades aren’t tolerated, he said.

“The government can send every signal that it possibly can — we’re not going to put up with lawless behaviour and we’re not going to sit at negotiating tables with people who break the law,” Tory said. “They have encouraged this sort of thing to spread.”

Six Nation protesters have been occupying a former housing development site in Caledonia for over two years, saying the land was wrongfully taken from them by the Crown over 200 years ago.

I have just read both your letters, I've been reading what this fellow is writing in his book "Energy Victory" by Robert Zurbin.

Here is what I understand from his writings:

Brazil is no longer dependant on importing any fuel.Since the Mid~1980's they have been only driving "Flex Fueled cars".

Now they only export oil to us and others.

A "Flex Fuel Car"can run on Ethanol, Methanol or Biofuels.
(But can also run on gas)

And only cost One Hundred Dollars to make!

So what does this mean? Glad you asked!

If they pass a man date that all cars must be flex fuel cars then the fuel station will start appearing, but not until.

~Alcohol burns cleaner than Gas,causing les pollution.

~Alcohol fuels are less toxic than gasoline.

~Ethanol is edible.

~Methanol,while is not edible is present in fresh fruit.

~Unlike gas,neither Ethanol nor Methanol are carcinogenic.

~Both Ethanol and Methanol are soluble in water and Biodegradable! (No permanent consequences of tanker accidents or major spills.)

~Alcohol fuel act counter to global warming because:

~Methanol from trash or otherwise flared natural gas has no net CO2.

~Fuel from planet material draws its CO2 from the atmosphere.

~Plants cool down the earth by evaporation of water through leaves.

~The heat of vaporizations then transported to the stratosphere, where it is mostly lost to space.

~To fight Global Warming promote agriculture.

~Shift to alcohol based fuels.

Falling Sea Levels

The tiny country of Tuvalu is not cooperating with global warming models. In the early 1990s, scientists warned that the Pacific coral atoll of nine islands - only 12 feet above sea level at its highest point - would vanish within decades, swamped by rising seas. Sea levels were supposedly rising at the rate of 1.5 inches per year.

However, new measurements show that sea levels have fallen 2.5 inches since that time. Similar sea-level declines have been recorded in Nauru and the Solomon Islands. (London Telegraph, 6 Aug 2000)

More than 31,000 scientists across the U.S. – including more than 9,000 Ph.D.s in fields such as atmospheric science, climatology, Earth science, environment and dozens of other specialties – have signed a petition rejecting "global warming," the assumption that the human production of greenhouse gases is damaging Earth's climate.

"There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate," the petition states. "Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth."

The Petition Project actually was launched nearly 10 years ago, when the first few thousand signatures were assembled. Then, between 1999 and 2007, the list of signatures grew gradually without any special effort or campaign.

But now, a new effort has been conducted because of an "escalation of the claims of 'consensus,' release of the movie 'An Inconvenient Truth' by Mr. Al Gore, and related events," according to officials with the project.

"Mr. Gore's movie, asserting a 'consensus' and 'settled science' in agreement about human-caused global warming, conveyed the claims about human-caused global warming to ordinary movie goers and to public school children, to whom the film was widely distributed. Unfortunately, Mr. Gore's movie contains many very serious incorrect claims which no informed, honest scientist could endorse," said project spokesman and founder Art Robinson.

WND submitted a request to Gore's office for comment but did not get a response.

Robinson said the dire warnings about "global warming" have gone far beyond semantics or scientific discussion now to the point they are actually endangering people.

"The campaign to severely ration hydrocarbon energy technology has now been markedly expanded," he said. "In the course of this campaign, many scientifically invalid claims about impending climate emergencies are being made. Simultaneously, proposed political actions to severely reduce hydrocarbon use now threaten the prosperity of Americans and the very existence of hundreds of millions of people in poorer countries," he said.

In just the past few weeks, there have been various allegations that both shark attacks and typhoons have been sparked by "global warming."

The late Professor Frederick Seitz, the past president of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and winner of the National Medal of Science, wrote in a letter promoting the petition, "The United States is very close to adopting an international agreement that would ration the use of energy and of technologies that depend upon coal, oil, and natural gas and some other organic compounds."

"This treaty is, in our opinion, based upon flawed ideas. Research data on climate change do not show that human use of hydrocarbons is harmful. To the contrary, there is good evidence that increased atmospheric carbon dioxide is environmentally helpful," he wrote.

Accompanying the letter sent to scientists was a 12-page summary and review of research on "global warming," officials said.

"The proposed agreement would have very negative effects upon the technology of nations throughout the world, especially those that are currently attempting to lift from poverty and provide opportunities to the over 4 billion people in technologically underdeveloped countries," Seitz wrote.

Robinson said the project targets scientists because, "It is especially important for America to hear from its citizens who have the training necessary to evaluate the relevant data and offer sound advice."

He said the "global warming agreement," written in Kyoto, Japan, in 1997, and other plans "would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind."

"Yet," he said, "the United Nations and other vocal political interests say the U.S. must enact new laws that will sharply reduce domestic energy production and raise energy prices even higher.

"The inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness include the right of access to life-giving and life-enhancing technology. This is especially true of access to the most basic of all technologies: energy. These human rights have been extensively and wrongly abridged," he continued. "During the past two generations in the U.S., a system of high taxation, extensive regulation, and ubiquitous litigation has arisen that prevents the accumulation of sufficient capital and the exercise of sufficient freedom to build and preserve needed modern technology.

"These unfavorable political trends have severely damaged our energy production, where lack of industrial progress has left our country dependent upon foreign sources for 30 percent of the energy required to maintain our current level of prosperity," he said. "Moreover, the transfer of other U.S. industries abroad as a result of these same trends has left U.S. citizens with too few goods and services to trade for the energy that they do not produce. A huge and unsustainable trade deficit and rapidly rising energy prices have been the result.

"The necessary hydrocarbon and nuclear energy production technologies have been available to U.S. engineers for many decades. We can develop these resources without harm to people or the environment. There is absolutely no technical, resource, or environmental reason for the U.S. to be a net importer of energy. The U.S. should, in fact, be a net exporter of energy," he said.

He told WND he believes the issue has nothing to do with energy itself, but everything to do with power, control and money, which the United Nations is seeking. He accused the U.N. of violating human rights in its campaign to ban much energy research, exploration and development.

"In order to alleviate the current energy emergency and prevent future emergencies, we need to remove the governmental restrictions that have caused this problem. Fundamental human rights require that U.S. citizens and their industries be free to produce and use the low cost, abundant energy that they need. As the 31,000 signatories of this petition emphasize, environmental science supports this freedom," he said.

The Petition Project website today said there are 31,072 scientists who have signed up, and Robinson said more names continue to come in.

In terms of Ph.D. scientists alone, it already has 15 times more scientists than are seriously involved in the U.N.'s campaign to "vilify hydrocarbons," officials told WND.

"The very large number of petition signers demonstrates that, if there is a consensus among American scientists, it is in opposition to the human-caused global warming hypothesis rather than in favor of it," the organization noted.

The project was set up by a team of physicists and physical chemists who do research at several American institutions and collects signatures when donations provide the resources to mail out more letters.

"In a group of more than 30,000 people, there are many individuals with names similar or identical to other signatories, or to non-signatories – real or fictional. Opponents of the petition project sometimes use this statistical fact in efforts to discredit the project. For examples, Perry Mason and Michael Fox are scientists who have signed the petition – who happen also to have names identical to fictional or real non-scientists," the website said.

The petition is needed, supporters said, simply because Gore and others "have claimed that the 'science is settled' – that an overwhelming 'consensus' of scientists agrees with the hypothesis of human-caused global warming, with only a handful of skeptical scientists in disagreement."

The list of scientists includes 9,021 Ph.D.s, 6,961 at the master's level, 2,240 medical doctors and 12,850 carrying a bachelor of science or equivalent academic degree.

The Petition Project's website includes both a list of scientists by name as well as a list of scientists by state.

The 12th May 7.9 earthquake hit the Sichuan Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Wenchuan County and affected more than half of China and beyond to neighboring countries.Aba is also known as the Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture.
To date, the total death toll is estimated at more than 50,000 victims with cities, counties and villages reduced to rubble, there is destruction everywhere in this huge natural disaster.

We have monitored Chinese language media and information sources and based on communications today with Tibetans and contacts in local organizations on the ground, we provide this update. Currently mobile, landline and internet access has not been restored. Satellite phones are currently the only communications working.

Deaths
The earthquake-affected areas include Wenchuan which in the Tibetan language is called "Lung Kuo," and also affected areas in the vicinity of Le Xian, Xiao Jinxian, and the Jiarong Tibetan region.
Tibetans have died in Wenchuan in the township, Danba County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gannan village in Zhouqu County, and other places

Damage
There has been damage in Wenchuan to the Wolong Temple which follows the Tibetan Bon religion (Benjiao in Chinese language).
Le Xian has seen damage to the Sangdeng Temple which follows the Tibetan Nyingma tradition.
According to news reports in the Chinese "Legal Daily" (Fazhi Ribao) the prison in Aba has been out of communication or transport links. It is supposed that the interruption is due to the prison being in a serious condition. Other prisons have had inmates or personnel killed and a small number of officers were injured and housing facilities damaged to varying degrees.

Tibetan Donations and Prayer Gatherings
There have been spontaneous prayer gatherings in temples by monks for the victims of the earthquake. The temples have also collected money and donated materials for the relief work.
This has been reported at Drepung Monastery in Lhasa, the Longwu Temple (Tongren County, Qinghai Province, Huangnan Prefecture), the Ger Den Temple (Sichuan Province, Aba County), Kumbum Monastery (Taer Si, Huangzhong County, Qinghai Province), Kham Litang Monastery (Litang County, Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province), Xi Busha temple, Xia Deray Temple (Qinghai Province, Zeku County) and Rong-an Temple (Jianzha County, Qinghai Province), and by many monks at other temples.

Below is a petition for the BVI government showing support for the preservation of a rare ecological area of international importance that is being threatened by a large scale golf course and marina development. I am respresenting the charity that is opposing this development in court - it is the first environmental case in the BVI and will set an important precedent for the region going forward. Please support our cause by taking a few seconds to sign the petition. The beautiful and ecologically unique Beef Island in the British Virgin Islands is home to numerous plants and animals that contribute to the health of the marine area.
But a proposed five-star hotel, marina and golf course complex means a full two-thirds of the land on Beef Island would be developed!

Elusive Caribbean roseate flamingos, rare West Indian whistling-ducks, and white-cheeked pintail are just a few of the animals whose population numbers will drop if we don't act now.
If the development moves forward, precious wildlife habitat, including mangrove, salt pond, terrestrial, and coral reef habitats of Beef Island, could disappear forever.
The proposed golf course would be within a fisheries-protected area that has been identified as the only significant and most important nursery habitat in the entire eastern sector of the British Virgin Islands.
