ITR - Solar Aid & Sunrise Celebration Co-ordinate to Help Change & Poverty

For InTouchRadio.net

SolarAid and Sunrise Celebration to help combat climate change and poverty

SolarAid, the new international solar charity, is teaming up with the Sunrise Celebration from 1 to 3 August at the Big Chill festival to raise awareness about the damage being wreaked by climate change and global poverty.

SolarAid believes that poor countries are being hit the hardest by the effects of climate change, as the recent disasters in Burma and Bangladesh have shown. Yet even the UK may not be spared, as shown by the flash floods that led to the cancellation of the Sunrise Celebration on 29 May.

That’s why SolarAid and Sunrise are teaming up again in August to raise awareness about climate change and global poverty among the Big Chill’s 30,000 festival-goers.

SolarAid Director Dr Nicolas Sireau said: ‘With the increase of erratic weather patterns, even in Somerset, there is a crucial need for organisations such as SolarAid and Sunrise to keep growing, whatever the challenges, and to raise awareness of the threat of climate change and how renewable energy is one of the most important solutions.’

The Sunrise Celebration’s Daniel Hurring said: ‘Solar power is a low cost solution to many of the global power issues. It certainly is a solution at Sunrise, which is like setting up a small town in a fortnight, and is a great example of how we can all occupy the land with minimal impact and waste. Sunrise and SolarAid are both focused on promoting renewable energy to fight climate change and global poverty so there are some excellent synergies there.’

SolarAid carries out microsolar projects – training solar entrepreneurs to build and sell small solar lanterns, radios and solar chargers for mobile phones – and macrosolar projects, such as installing solar panels on schools and health clinics in Africa.

Remember: SUNSHINE IS FREE!

SolarAid volunteers can be found at the Sun Hut in the Green Innovations area of the Sunrise Arena at the Big Chill. They will be demonstrating how the micro solar model works, giving talks, holding solar lantern and solar cooking workshops and answering questions about SolarAid’s work. You can spot them in their blue ‘sunshine is free’ t-shirts.

You can also help SolarAid in a small way (and it won’t cost you a penny!): while packing up your camping stove, sun cream and wellies, please also pack any unwanted mobile phones that you have lying around, and bring them along to the SolarAid Sun Hut for recycling: £4 from each phone will go towards SolarAid’s solar projects in Zambia, bringing urgently needed energy to some of the poorest communities.

For more information about SolarAid go to: www.solar-aid.org

ITR - What A Hazy Crazy World We're Living In - Not!

InTouchRadio.net

What A Crazy World We're Living In!

Untrue!

There is nothing wrong with the World - never has been nor never will ~ She, I like to think of her as a ~ She ~ Mother energy is perfect. She holds us to her and feeds us and waters us and we - feel we are owed - we deserve - we are more important, indulgent - ungrateful, intolerant, self-consuming ~ singularly insular and above all others.

Why am I thinking these thought? Well, right now, around this beautiful female mother called Earth - we, the above and beyond are feeling that somehow let down, our egos no longer massaged by an ever-increasing falsehood that Money is God is Everything - including our latest Ferrari - Porsche - Face Lift - Bottom Tuck - Lypo - Computer but because even as we break through the illusion and the powers-that-be realize the Sheep are challenging and 98% is a big challenge to the governing 2%!

So what do they do with this increasing greed that self-consumes - they constrict.

They take the power back - they watch from hidden aspects and squeeze.

They limit by their very control at the monetry level - they suck it back in slurps - Pension Funds disappear in the name of some faceless villain who just happens to be in the brotherhood or sisterhood - buy-outs between passionate friends - suddenly the £200 or $400 or whatever currency you wish to mention per month paid in for 10 or 15 or 20 years with promise of end-of-life-comfort is gone - sellouts-within-sellouts till none is left - perhaps just less than 1% of all that money to survive in comfort on!

Endless monies slipped into other people's pockets as they slurp their Rum and Co-Co Nut Surprise on some whiter than white beach in the middle of some bluer than blue sea with the golden Rolex time machine giving a three-dimensional aspect to a sun-bronzed wrist.

We are greedy - we are led to the slaughter - lambs of self-indulgance - Power to the People - sorry there has to be Indians and Chiefs and all the balances between.

So they restrict that which you thought was permanent - slurp it away - suctioning the greed.

Not enough, too much power for too long?

Mobility - the next restrictor - stop them moving and they have or will do when the slurping of the monetry aspect subsides and dwindles and the only way is food.

They promise to feed our greed with meat for the belly, but food for the belly needs food for the food - take down the trees, promise the need to fulfil the greed.

To feed the food that needs to feed - bring down the trees that ease the World's air to breath and plant a crop - not just any old crop but a crop that is resistant and comes from a world of un-natural resource - made for man by man to man. Gee Em sounds like an opening statement between some old couple Gee Em did you hear about what they did to whom when and what?

GM - GM - GM
could be some chant if it wasn't so tragic.

So they fill the food that fills man's (and women's) need which is, in fact, greed and ply it full of GM seed (ok I'll write a song - promise) and when the realization comes to mind and the 98% say no (in degrees of the 98%) we suddenly are out of fuel - Global Warming - except we've had the coldest summer in years here in the UK, only yesterday I was wearing a winter coat to sit in the late afternoon sun in July - cold wind and rain we've had like never before... but Global Warming (and yes I do understand about our responsibility globally); here's the thing ~ in the words of the TV series Monk - here's the thing - what do they do - those good ole powers-that-be - they change and alter the perameters.

Now we need fuel - so GM comes into play like never before - it's strain resistant, rain resistant - bug and drain resistant and guess what we've got a whole continent South America rules yeah! 98% GM - gotcha!

So the people are cute - the sheep - the 98% know something's up - here comes the pain, something wrong with the rain - something we didn't tell you and it'll take away all that is vain and we complain and they stop.

Information, Mis-Information - Dis-Information - Mis-Trust - Dis - Mis - come on - they turn like trapped scorpions walking in the face of oncoming fire ready to sting you or themselves to turn the tide of realization; twisting and turning but never quite burning and the pan piper leads us all away.

GM Food - the faceless corporates who run the planet wanted it - how much control is being put into it? If GM Food can do all the things it apparently does to all that attack it (in the world of nature) and it has a suicide gene what the hell is it going to do to us - are we seen as a bacteria, a germ, a predator? You tell me - and all in the name of Science - this is where my old Hypnotherapy tutor told me - Science Sucks and it does in great big slurps.

So you think you're free - yeah cos' you are - and if you believe that you truly are living in the world of the Hippy Dippy - Hazy Crazy - but one thing's for sure - this World of ours (not ours but our host) can do a planetary Hippy Hippy Shake and we'll be long gone like the other large creatures before - when we come to believe we are greater than we are - a small corporate wake up or a Worldly review will make us understand that the World is perfectly sane crystal clear and it's us that are falling into the inane insanity that loves to blame.

So here we are, I've got it out - not sure if there's a song in there but there's a tune in my head.

Let's have your point of view.

Oh, finally about Ego - my friend, about 35 years ago in conversation about music life and group involvement and what people might think (around 1973) ~ Well right now there are 50 million Chinese who haven't got a clue who you are and in 100 years time no - one will have known who you were. Sort of put it all in perspective.

Have a good day and never believe what you read in newspapers - but read between the lines and when you do know that you're only told what the powers will let you know...

Petrol Situation Is Causing Concern In Australia

Hi Michael

Hope all is going well over there - thought I would send the information below. At this stage I am still in Perth where the gas fire situation has caused power to be restricted to Perth and they do not anticipate full repair of gas field pipes until November!!!

Love Jan xx

Petrol Price Australia's Number One Concern

Australians are more troubled by skyrocketing petrol prices than the health system, environment and terrorism, a new survey shows.

Belated news - Fifty per cent of those surveyed in Census Consumer Report, released today, said they expected to spend more money on transport costs over the next year.

"The cost of petrol went right to the top of consumers' concerns this quarter, scoring 7.58 out of a possible 10," said report author Christena Singh.

But despite concerns about petrol, consumer confidence jumped to its highest level in more than a year in the August quarter, the report showed.

Australia's health system, the number one concern during last quarter, was ranked second in the August quarter at 7.39.

The environment was ranked third at 7.21 and increases in the cost of living occupied fourth place at 6.98.

Terrorism scored the biggest increase from 5.93 to 6.96 following the July 7 attacks in London.

Unemployment rated the lowest concern at 5.70.

But concern about spiralling petrol costs is mounting as motorists fork out up to $50 a month extra to fill up, the report found.

In the past week, Australian petrol prices have risen by more than seven cents a litre even though the world price of oil fell by more than $4.50 a barrel.

Over the past three months, petrol has risen 26 cents and motorists do not expect the situation to change any time soon.

"Unfortunately, Australians are not expecting their concerns about petrol prices to ease in the near future," Ms Singh said.

"Transport is the area where most Australians expect to increase spending during the next 12 months."

The report also showed consumer confidence jumped five percentage points during the August quarter.

"Overall, 56 per cent of Australians are confident about their future prospects for the year ahead, the highest level in well over a year," Ms Singh said.

"Consumers are feeling confident and businesses are seeing evidence of that."

But petrol prices could start to have a major impact on business costs, Ms Singh warned.

"Australians now believe high petrol prices aren't just a short-term fluctuation," she said.

"We will have to wait and see whether this translates into lower levels of consumer confidence and spending behaviour."

ITR - Climate Change G8 Summit News Report for InTouchRadio.net (UK/GLOBAL)

InTouchRadio.net - News from Avaaz.org

Dear friends,

Canada, Japan, and the USA are blocking talks at the G8 on targets to cut climate change by 2020. Join the call for action:

Our message will be delivered in a full-page Financial Times ad on Tuesday, using the Japanese "Hello Kitty" cartoon to shame Harper, Bush, and Fukuda:

The vast majority of the world's people want urgent, bold action on climate change -- but here at the G8 summit, three politicians stand in the way. Canada's Harper, Japan's Fukuda, and the United States' Bush are refusing to discuss climate targets for the year 2020.

Scientists agree that the next 12 years will make or break our response to the climate crisis. But if the facts haven't grabbed these leaders' attention, something else might: humour.

Avaaz has arranged a full-page satirical advert for Tuesday's global Financial Times newspaper, shaming Harper, Fukuda, and Bush for their climate irresponsibility. The paper will be delivered to the hotel rooms of every G8 delegate. Together, we can make it costly and embarrassing enough that these leaders will think twice before squandering another opportunity for climate progress. Click below to endorse its important message and then pass this email on to your friends and family!

http://www.avaaz.org/en/g8_2020_targets/12.php?cl=107872072

Why this last-moment push? Our strategy is based on two important stories--Australia and Bali.[2]

At the UN climate negotiations in Bali, Harper, Fukuda, and Bush were trying to block any reference to climate targets for the year 2020 -- just as they are now at the G8. But a global uproar turned the tide. Negotiators from the global South rose, one after the next, to demand that the spoilers step aside. Citizen groups in every nation raised their voices -- including 320,000 Avaaz members in the final 72 hours. And a satirical full-page Avaaz ad in the Jakarta Post (a remake of the Titanic movie poster featuring Harper, Bush, and Fukuda) made headlines worldwide. A major Japanese paper later reported that this ad was waved at a top-level Japanese cabinet meeting -- leading to a step forward in Fukuda's climate policy.[3]

The second story, of Australia, shows what happens when humour combines with mass political power.

In Australia, former Prime Minister John Howard was as bad on climate as Harper, Fukuda, and Bush are now. Last fall, he chaired a summit global summit, APEC, where he tried to paint himself as a world leader on climate change. But Avaaz and other groups pushed back -- with stunts, marches, and a terrific parody television spot from our friends at GetUp, exposing Howard's charade and demanding real targets for climate emissions cuts. Climate change emerged as the defining issue of the election -- and when Howard lost, the first action of the new government was to ratify the Kyoto Protocol.

Harper faces a difficult election this fall, and climate change is emerging as a key issue. In the US, the campaign to succeed Bush could hinge on climate policy. And Fukuda's political opponents are challenging him sharply on how to confront the climate crisis.

In short, Our global efforts now can send political shock waves through all three countries. It's up to us to raise a cry once again. Sign up and spread the word:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/g8_2020_targets/12.php?cl=107872072

We can't always be certain of the results of our actions. But in the face of the climate crisis, it's worth trying everything we can. We make green decisions in our private lives. And when the big public decisions are made, if enough of us stand together -- this time, next time, and every time -- then, one way or another, our message will be heard. Our leaders will change ... or we'll change our leaders.

With hope and determination,

Ben, Iain, Alice, Ricken, Paul, Graziela, Pascal, Veronique, Mark, and Milena -- the Avaaz.org team

PS: The climate change ad is one of four full-page ads we're running in the global Financial Times this week, all designed to multiply the impact of member-driven Avaaz campaigns. Look for them in the paper, or find them at http://www.avaaz.org/ads.

PPS: Here are the sources for this alert.

[1] Global and Mail: "Climate-change goals fall short at G8"

and AFP: "Climate deadlock seen at G8 despite 'constructive' Bush."

[2] See the ads and learn more about the Bali and Australia stories at http://www.avaaz.org/climate-victories.

[3] Fukuda announced that Japan would adopt mid-term targets for 2020. That was a major step forward -- except that Fukuda now refuses to include these targets in the G8 negotiations. Moreover, though Fukuda has promised 2020 targets, he hasn't actually set them. See: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/jun/09/japan.climatechange

ITR - Ricky Tick Club-Windsor 1962-7 Help Needed for Bands Who Played There

Ricky Tick Club - Windsor, Berkshire UK
1962 - 1967

Below are some of the bands who played at the Tick in Windsor
during this period.

The Ricky Tick Club & InTouchRadio.net

We need help to contact any of the members of the bands or the bands themselves - if you can help please contact: michael@intouchradio.net - this is an Urgent request as the founder/owner of the Ricky Tick, John Mansfield is putting together a book about the Ricky Tick Where Rock History Was Made...

Here's some of the bands - some have already left the house those remaining have stories to tell of this legendary club based in Windsor, Berkshire and later around the South East and South West England - Please help - if you have contacts all will be treated in complete confidence. The Bands that played at the Tick were in their infancy - some later became legends in their own right - their recollections will be invaluable before its too late of how modern music began...

Some UK Bands:

Jimi Hendrix
Pink Floyd
The Rolling Stones
Eric Clapton
Elton John
The Who
Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames
The Animals
The Yardbirds
John Mayall
Zoot Money
Graham Bond
Nightimers
Moody Blues
Van Morrison
Fleetwood Mac
Pete Green
Rod Stewart
Jeff Beck
Alexis Korner
Cyril Davis & The All Stars
Long John Baldry

American and Visiting Acts:

Stevie Wonder
Bill Haley & The Comets
Muddy Waters
Ben E. King
Solomon Burke
Tina Turner
Bo Didley
Rufus Thomas
Sonny Boy Williamson
Johnny Guitar Watson
Larry Williams
The Unknown ~ Jimmy Hendrix

An example of how popular the Ricky Tick was the Rolling Stones played the Club no less than 39 times during 1962 - March 1964 - six times before the Crawdaddy Club - this was more than any other club - Mods & Rockers flooded to see the Stones, Animals, Yardbirds, Georgie Fame, John Mayall, Zoot Money Graham Bond, Nightimers, Moody Blues, Van Morrison - Fleetwood Mac ~ The Ricky Tick was the place to let it all hang out ~ well metaphorically speaking of course.

The Ricky Tick started off life in the famous Star & Garter Pub in Peascod Street, famous as being the oldest Coaching Inn in Windsor and one-time home to the boxing fraternity where famous boxers like Sugar Ray Robinson used to box upstairs above the one-time stables below - later moving to The Thames Hotel by the river close to Windsor / Eton bridge for a short segue and then relocating to The Old Etonian Club - by then a semi-derelict mansion near the river and the Windsor Swimming Pool by Windsor Bypass bridge.

The Ricky Tick promoted in 27 towns providing an incredible range of artists and all of this from the humble beginnings of John (Lancelot) Mansfield and his late partner Philip Hayward.

I made contact with John after my interview with Smokey Joe recently when we started remembering our past and Long John Baldry and an incident with me and LJB occured outside the Ricky Tick when it was at the Star & Garter - this led me to follow up LJB only to find he'd passed on 3 years previously and I then contacted John Mansfield.

John is shortly coming down to my place and we're going to review the Tick's history over a series of programs which I am happy to do as this was one of my gigs back then and for me it's like going home again - I hope it will feel the same to some of those bands that also played there - bringing back the days when music was music and no barriers only hard work gigging up and down the country and overseas - we were paid in those days - my first bands pay the princely sum of £2.50UK not for me but the whole band but at least we were paid - many bands these days pay to play - something I cannot and will never understand - your trade deserves to be paid the same way you had to pay for your gear, car, van - petrol/diesel, strings, skins, mics etc.

If you have any way to those people above or any others that played at the Ricky Tick please don't hesitate to contact me as soon as possible - if you can get through to those people please do and ask them to contact back to me: michael@intouchradio.net and I hope to see you all over online at www.intouchradio.net

ITR - URGENT - RICKY TICK CLUB WINDSOR - Information and Groups Who Played There Contact www.InTouchRadio.net

Ricky Tick Club
Windsor
Berkshire
UK
& InTouchRadio.net

1962 - 1968 'ish

Urgent

If you have information, photos, bootleg music played there or have memories of all the Tick Clubs then please contact me.

I'm in contact with John Mansfield who ran the Ricky Tick Club in Windsor during those heady - head stompin' funky daze throughout the 1960's.

The Ricky Tick was the place to play outside of London when bands were bands and touchable and approachable - the list would be too long of all the major acts that played there through those years whether it was at the Star & Garter Pub upstairs out back or at the Thames Hotel down by the river near Windsor Bridge or where it ended at the Old Etonian Club by the Swimming Pool adjacent to the Windsor ByPass.

The associations with all other major clubs with the Tick as it was known again too many to mention in this brief.

Can you help by spreading the word around - get InTouch with all those 60's bands that played the Southern Circuit and ask them to get back into those brain cells and pull out those memories.

John will be coming to mine soon and we will be recollecting those days that made the music of today and if you've contact with the legends that played there then ask them to get their teams to contact me.

Perhaps we can get those other Clubs such as The Wooden Bridge, Guildford, EelPie Island, Marquee (Wardour Street), Ronnie Scotts, 100 Club, Chalk Farm - all those interactive moments that need collecting for you to know what it was like to be in music when it was real bands being paid to play not paying to play; the days on the road, the Ford Transits with double back wheels, the Ford Thames with column changes, the seats changed with old aircraft seats from Heathrow. Going to get your amps repaired with Jim Marshal at Southall, Goodmans Speakers - changing those great big 18 inch drivers - Selmer in Charing Cross Road, the Gia Condor in Denmark Street... come on let's get those memories out so the musicians out there now know what it was really like back then.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you Urgently as I have the meeting soon with John Mansfield and he has so much information ready to be released.

ITR - Unofficial Olympics Anthem - James Cameron & Glastonbury Street Choir

PRESS RELEASE

RELEASED ON 30th June 2008 AN UNOFFICIAL ANTHEM FOR THE 2008 OLYMPICS: ‘TIBET WILL BE FREE’

by James Cameron and the Glastonbury Street Choir

From the ancient English heart of Glastonbury comes this passionate envisioning of a free Tibet. ‘Tibet Will Be Free’ was recorded in 2001 by Glastonbury songwriter James Cameron, with the assistance of musician and studio owner Dave Eastoe – not forgetting the Glastonbury Street Choir – who were hauled out of the local café for the session.

After the recording James saw his song – with its lyrics partly translated into Spanish, and its reference to the utopian Buddhist paradise Shambala - make its first steps into the world, being heard and admired by the Dalai Lama. Sadly James died in 2003, but now in 2008, as public opinion worldwide supports the cause of a free Tibet, it goes live at online stores on the Pathfinder Audio label as an unofficial anthem for the Beijing games. It is backed with ‘World at the Crossroads’ by John Webster with Brindaband, also featuring instrumentation by Dave Eastoe, and first featured on John’s 2002 album ‘Songs for our Time’.

‘The power of any art is limited’ wrote Wordsworth, and perhaps it is hard to see a song making any impression on the apparently secure Chinese occupation of Tibet. But it is worth remembering that less than two decades after Lord Byron wrote `I dreamed that Greece might still be free’ Greece did in fact achieve independence. Hopefully James’s song will also be borne out by future events.

Tibet will be free, Tibet will be free,

Tibet will be free, Tibet sera libre

Every woman every man

Every child every dream

Tibet will be free, Tibet will be free

Todos las mujeres todos los hombres

Todos los ninos Tibet will be free

Shambala’s within you present your heart

You can move mountains you can see God

Like the crystal water into the sea

Intimacy, into me see

Emergency, emerge and see

Tibet will be free…..

"There are few people that affect me on first meeting - in the moments before I was unexpectedly introduced to Billy I felt affected. It was through my new friend Mo Fini of Tumi Music (www.tumimusic.com) that I was introduced to
John Hollis, Billy's and Asere's Producer, they were talking and Mo introduced me - when he said this is Billy Cobham's Producer and that Billy was just a few steps away preparing for the Billy Cobham/Asere JazzWorld stage gig I cautiously asked if I could just say hello. John looked me pensively up and down, smiled and said go ask him...
Billy's driver pointed me in the right direction and I put the recorder into record/pause mode, flicked the switch.

What transpired was an introduction to not only a hero of many years of mine and an inspiration to just about every drummer from the 1950's onwards. Not only was Billy approachable but he was courtious, gentle and loving and absolutely full of humour and laughter and I might add - a Glastonbury Apple Muffin or two.

There was this completely professional and yet inspiringly open man talking openly about his life and work and showing no signs of the normal musician before the huge JazzWorld stage gig he was about to perform just a few minutes away, if he hadn't been hurried away I think he'd have been happy to talk openly and sincerely for as long as it took.

I was, and will always remain a avid fan of this man and hope one day not too far in the future to be able to get
together again and discuss the days when we grew up and how music has changed from those openly experiential days when I feel music was music and not the expected music that recent years pushed us corporately into; it is only in these past recent years I can see an opening back into the consciousness of true music - the music that is the language of the Soul and our Human collectiveness."

Billy Cobham & Asere have a new album only just released - it is beautifully arranged - culturally interwoven with the rhythms that are Cuba, Panama, Spain and South America.
