ITR - Sunrise 'Off Grid' Festival - Changing the Way We Think - Michael Dixon - ITR-UK & Global

Michael Dixon - Founder ITR-UK & Global

Sunrise

Off Grid

Day #1

Where do we find the energy to do things at the most impossible of times?

After a very late or early am (3am to be precise) finish and after a very early am (5am to be nearly precise...) start.

Two of us had been working to the very early hours, well to be truthful, I Skype-talk watched and gave the relative information while a very patient, Virgilio Fino (UseYourEars.com) ploughed endlessly through all the ITR Blogs changing from one account to another, which meant 22 Mb being uploaded several times while we (he) sorted out the new Blogger. All too much for me.

At 5am I had to be up to post information and set everything up because today I knew I had promised that I would be at Sunrise 'Off Grid' Festival to work with Brian Viziondanz in a little collective we'd made up at the previous Sunrise Celebration. It was there that Brian, Paul Maple of Gungho Media and I fell into the routine of helping each other rather than being solo acts so to speak.

It was a wonderful experience for me, I liked the harmony of a collective mind thought pattern, it's something I have sought for a long time. People you can trust and a knowing that you're not going to let one another down.

This morning was crazy, not only did I have to sort out my end of last night's Blog changeover but also to start to arrange my layout in Google Mail, I won't go there it's far too boringly complicated and all my complications ... enough said.

Time is strange. Time moves the implausible and motions the impossible. It also goes in different speeds depending on the mind pattern or the brain cluck.

My brain was 'clucking' like a rampant chicken on heat. Everything was last minute. Nothing found it's 'proper' home in the order of ascendency therefore I just chucked things into the car with no organization at all - hence the possibility that something was going to be left behind.

By midday I was in a duality I've not experienced for some while. I had Communication Breakdown in true Led Zeppelin style.

The phones were ringing - things that should have been done had not. The door was knocking with the postman delivering (actually I heard the dogs barking and walked out to meet Mike our local postman - gave me a break the legs excercise).

I was up and down the attic stairs looking for cables I would need and cables I might need!

I filled a thermos flask with home-brewed plunger coffee. Grabbed some healthy snack bars of vegan quality. Scooped out spoonfuls of my peanut butter into a jar. Popped a pack of my favourite rice cakes into the aging Tesco's bag. A spoon, a knife, bottle of water - a little Vodka and slammed it into the car, I mean slammed, an accident as I tripped the light fandango out of the door and into the open door of the car.

Nothing broken in went the recording kit, video kit, camera kit, wellington boots, walking boots, clothes in case I stayed over. Sleeping bag, tent, flannel, soap, razor, toothbrush and then it started to rain.

Canadian Camera Crew

Did I just say rain! It fell like there was no tomorrow. I thought that's it I'm staying here.

I waited whilst scrumping an apple from the fruit basket in the kitchen.

'Sod it!' the thought hit me between the eyes - go for it - it might not be raining there.

By the time I got as far as Wells, I could hardly see the road ahead. "Well Michael, you've gone this far, go the rest"... those words were not mine - they came from a higher place.

\
Group Drumming

I arrived in rain but a perfectly dry field - I got soaked getting my passes but I felt extremely good, tired but good. I saw faces I knew - the regular Sunrise family - all smiling, wet and smiling - home.

No sooner had I the Press passes and car pass than my old friend Rudi arrived from Totness in Devon, Rudi is a cameraman who works with Brian and Paul on the Gungho Media composite.

Sunrise Off Grid Flags

We parked up together adjacent to Jonathan Cainer's huge Winnebago, which is painted with planets and stars and astrological symbols. You will probably know Jonathan the famous Daily Mail Astrologer.

We got our gear out and were beckoned to Jonathan's home on wheels for a coffee and intros to all the associated media friends.

Jonathan was working elsewhere and would be here tomorrow we were told, Jonathan is, many would say, the saviour of many aspects of festival life going back to the early days of the festival scene especially the early 70's fiasco in Windsor Great Park... another story.

Buddhafield Cafe

Brian Viziondanz arrived at Jonathan's and we worked out our day's routine. There are some great speakers at Sunrise 'Off Grid' this year and some amazing bands too playing in a very Eco way. Literally 'Off Grid' all power comes from Solar and other alternative means.

Rudi & I had arrived late for the start of John Harris's 'Lawful Rebellion' but Brian was fervent in his pulling us from our coffee to record John.

We followed Brian I immediately set to getting the gear ready and up-to-speed.

What followed was a couple of hours of some amazing realizations about what is right and wrong with the law in this and other countries and what is and isn't your right as a citizen. I would thoroughly recommend John's book when it comes out - his talk was seriously inspiring.

Camping Festival Style

After the talk Rudi and I walked around the site and collected photos and video footage and just before finishing I met Graham Robey who was working on some arrays of solar panelling. I had no idea of how they worked and their output. I pulled out the Tascam DR-100 recorder and worked without an external mic, I had to capture the moment.

Graham is a Director of Energy Development Co-operative Ltd from Lowestoft in Suffolk - he is a really lovely person and is passionate about his work. We all need to think Eco and this is the way we should all be looking.

Acoustic Gathering Sunrise Off Grid

Graham said that EDCL has a vast website - well here's your chance www.solar-wind.co.uk see what you think - it is our future - so look caringly.

Arriving back at Jonathan C's Winnebago I arrived to find Brian Viziondanz making a coffee. We sat down and worked out the itinerary for tomorrow.

Brian Viziondanz

Brian asked me to do a piece to camera regarding our politicians and what I would like to ask them given the chance, I hope I was honest in my response. He also ventured a question to ask the children of today what their fears were and how to address them, again with 3 children of my own I hope I was honest in my reply.

It was now 7.30pm and I had to dash back home via Glastonbury to grab some chips, not the best meal to end the day but it did the trick.

SunSets over SunRise Festival

More tomorrow or when I get back from Sunrise 'Off Grid'.

If you're in the Somerset area come on over, bring the family - safe and secure, friendly and loving. Let them know you read about it here on ITR's Blogs/

It's now 11.30 pm and I'm struggling to keep awake... hope to get this up on the sites before I nod off...

ITR - Blogger Rebuild News

Hi InTouchRadio.net World Family

What a day and what a night! What started as a quick 'hello' contact with one of the most important people, endlessly working in the background, seamlessly drawing the threads of this, now, global network, ended as a marathon 8pm through to 3am Skype'o mania of texts moving faster than the sound of compression itself - ever heard compression, that quick grab of a note and then the slow release of the sound, holding it up and then letting go.

Virgilio was the quick note and I was the slow compression desperately trying to understand and manage the speed at which 'V' works on his web sites and especially his 'one and only' UseYourEars.com (www.useyourears.com).

Just a little about UYE (Use Your Ears). I first met Virgilio back in 2007 at my first 'Sunrise Celebration Festival' after being introduced to his lovely partner Nathalie Ples
sis. Virgilio is a quiet person, just gets on with what he does. At festivals and other music functions that includes Photography, and he's good at that too.

Virgilio Fino

UseYourEars.com

'V' as I often call him in typo language, explained he had an ongoing project simply called 'Use Your Ears' - he explained at that time, that it was a work in progress over some 7 years. It had been a site for his own music (he is also a brilliant innovative musician with links in many ways to Hendrix - that's another story) but over the years of meeting with musicians it had turned into a site, simply for the 'Musician' - did I just say simple! 'V' told me recently that UYE, with all the links, were thousands of pages deep.

Virgilio has built an incredible web site that not only covers the Musician but also Venues, the retail shops where bands can buy their kit from, Radio Stations, Photo section - I really can only say do go online to UseYourEars sign up - become part of the World UYE Family and get your own exposure. UYE even has it's own Google Earth mapping so no matter where you are you can find the place you're looking for.

Did I say a 'work in progress'? The times I've been online with 'V' through the middle of the night after he's been sorting out other peoples' web sites, flying off to different locations and back and then working again, I thought I was a work-a-holic but 'V' is on another plane...(no pun intended). UYE is now globally networked.

You can imagine how grateful I was when Virgilio helped me last night knowing he has many things taking his time so once again I can only say a massive thank you to him and his ever-patient partner Nathalie for my 'learning curve' and am looking forward to the new addition to the Plessis-Fino family.

Hope you enjoy ITR Blogs - please send in your news from around the world - together we can make a difference, divided we are truly separated. We are at a time in our Human history when our need to be together As One has never before been so important - in harmony - no matter our personal indifferences, our colour, our race or creed or financial or political stance for at the end of days we are simply one.

You'll notice that I have been setting up different sections to ITR. One of those sections is our recent Equestrian Section hosted by Angela Spray out in Queensland, Australia who is in collaboration with our own UK's famous horse lady Lucinda Green. Angela is happy to connect with people and news that are all things 'Equestrian'.

My dream with this section was not simply the obvious. Man's link to the Horse and the Pony go back to the beginning. I want to promote every aspect of the horse and pony - it is not just about Show, Dressage, Racing, Gymkhana but the Pit Pony, the Plains, American, Mongolian, Desert Nomadic, Arabian, Working including the poorly named Donkey and Ass. Contact me studio@intouchradio.net and I'll pass you on to Angela.

I would like to thank all the ITR net workers around the world who give their time and love freely to bring information from their localities for others to share. We have teams and individuals in most major countries.

We need more to help from around the world.

ITR - Remember Why It's Christmas - Michael Dixon ITR-UK & Global

Michael Dixon - Founder ITR-UK & Global

InTouchRadio.net

'Remember Why It's Christmas'

Ian Bramble & yours truly Michael Dixon back in the 80's put this together, in our post-'Hooker' days up at the fledgling Touchwood Music, in Stow on the Wold, Gloucestershire.

Ian and wife Nicola along with John Coghlan (Status Quo), Dave Allen, Jeremy Carrol, Rich Hoy, Valerie Friend submitted to the pressure... of getting it out.

I love the fun and the atmos-will be blogging the story with the original on that first 80's portastudio.

Priceless days.

Check out the video on Utube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2niBBgFuD3c

Please Blog this out - let's see if we can get this out there - we need a little lift and this just grows and builds and Remember Why It's Christmas.

See just how far we can get this around the world...

Lots of Love

ITR - Sunrise Off Grid Festival - Shepton Mallet NEXT WEEK - Michael Dixon ITR-UK & Global

InTouchRadio.net

Sunrise

'Off Grid'

Shepton Mallet

Nr

Glastonbury

NEXT WEEK

Sunrise: Off Grid is just round the corner and we are all, of course, panicking because we forgot to book this and never thought about that and its all just suddenly hitting us once more that we have another festival to organise!!!

Yikes!

But the weather is on the up, the content is outstanding (and getting better each day) and the vibe is very very positive.

Its going to be a superb weekend of community living in a field - soaking up, osmosis style, the seemingly endless skills and knowledge of our family; sharing in music, laughter and love; listening, talking, interacting and interweaving our dreams!

So whats new?.....

URGENTLY NEEDED

We need 1 or 2 able bodied folk who may be able to come on to site this weekend to help out with the early preparations.

Anybody who feels that they very enthusiastically want and can help, then let us know via email - dan@sunrisecelebration or message me on facebook!

Also, we may still have a vacancy or two for stewards so if you are interested, get in quick!

BRING YER PILLOWS

Sunrise: Off Grid will see the return of the unlikely ever to be infamous Sunrise pillow fight!

This outrageous 10 minutes of soft carnage is an unmissable adventure in silliness. Also on offer will be Tug of Wars - an ancient technique of conflict resolution. This event's epic battles MAY include Transition Towns vs Horsedrawn Folk; Tinkers Bubble vs The Astrologers AND EVEN Sunrise Crew vs Big Green Gathering (let us at them!!).

WORKSHOPS

Since we sent the last mail out with the workshop line-up, there's been loads of added workshop content.

Top of this list is the amazing JOHN HARRIS, of TPUC, the humble and understated maestro of the movement of freemen! John will be presenting his outstanding and important findings on the improperness of law in this land and how in fact we are ALL Free Men.

We have one other totally awesome and exciting speaker on the verge of confirming, but perhaps more on that later!

Other Added Workshop content includes....

Compost Toilet Building with Hannah Thorogood
Green Architecture - Hannah Thorogood
Spiritual Activism with Theo Simon
What the **** is Spirituality with William Bloom
Wild Food Foraging with Fergus Drennan (Wild Food Man)

We are kinda blown away by the range of workshops and talks that are now on offer, and we are very grateful to all those who have offered these to us, pretty much all because they want to support this event in its beginnings!

MUSIC

The line-up is developing rapidly and will make a beautiful overture to the educational content. The current musical offering stands as this:-

Los Albertos

Seize the Day

Kangaroo Moon

Nila Raja

Ten Ton Tongue

Green Angels

Wriggles of Nen

Dan Arborise

Al-Gernon

Tim Hall

The Awakening

Badly Housebound Girl

Miss Gente

Mark Mandala

Sam Welbourne

And more TBC....

ITR - Les Paul Guitar Legend Dies Age 94 - Michael Dixon - ITR-UK & Global

Michael Dixon - Founder ITR-UK & Global

Guitar Legend/Inventor

Les Paul

Dies

At Age 94

By LUKE SHERIDAN (AP)

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Les Paul, who pioneered the solid-body electric guitar later wielded by a legion of rock 'n' roll greats, died Thursday of complications from pneumonia. He was 94.

In this June 20, 2008 file photo, guitar legend and innovator Les Paul is seen before throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before the first inning of a baseball game between the Baltimore orioles and the Milwaukee Brewers in Milwaukee. Paul, 94, the guitarist and inventor who changed the course of music with the electric guitar and multitrack recording and had a string of hits, died, Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009 in White Plains, N.Y., according to Gibson Guitar. (AP Photo/Morry Gash, file)

According to Gibson Guitar, Paul died at White Plains Hospital. His family and friends were by his side.

As an inventor, Paul also helped bring about the rise of rock 'n' roll with multitrack recording, which enables artists to record different instruments at different times, sing harmony with themselves, and then carefully balance the tracks in the finished recording.

In this Oct. 4, 2004 file photo, guitar legend Les Paul gets ready to rehearse at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York. Paul, 94, the guitarist and inventor who changed the course of music with the electric guitar and multitrack recording and had a string of hits, died, Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009 in White Plains, N.Y., according to Gibson Guitar. (AP Photo/Richard Drew, file)

The use of electric-amplified guitars gained popularity in the mid-to-late 1940s, and then exploded with the advent of rock in the mid-'50s.

"Suddenly, it was recognized that power was a very important part of music," Paul once said. "To have the dynamics, to have the way of expressing yourself beyond the normal limits of an unamplified instrument, was incredible. Today a guy wouldn't think of singing a song on a stage without a microphone and a sound system."

"Without Les Paul, we would not have rock and roll as we know it," said Terry Stewart, president of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. "His inventions created the infrastructure for the music and his playing style will ripple through generations. He was truly an architect of rock and roll."

In this Feb. 26, 2007 file photo, Guitar legend Les Paul smiles at the Iridium Jazz Club in the Manhattan Borough of New York. Paul, 94, the guitarist and inventor who changed the course of music with the electric guitar and multitrack recording and had a string of hits, died, Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009 in White Plains, N.Y., according to Gibson Guitar. (AP Photo/ Colin Archer, file)

A tinkerer and musician since childhood, he experimented with guitar amplification for years before coming up in 1941 with what he called "The Log," a four-by-four piece of wood strung with steel strings. He felt a solid body would give the instrument a different sound from a traditional hollow guitar with an electrical pickup added to it.

"I went into a nightclub and played it. Of course, everybody had me labeled as a nut." He later put the wooden wings onto the body to give it a tradition guitar shape.

Leo Fender's Broadcaster was the first mass-produced solid body electric on the market in the late 1940s. In 1952, Gibson Guitars began production on the Les Paul guitar.

Pete Townshend of the Who, Steve Howe of Yes, jazz great Al DiMeola and Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page all made the Gibson Les Paul their trademark six-string.

Over the years, the Les Paul series has become one of the most widely used guitars in the music industry. In 2005, Christie's auction house sold a 1955 Gibson Les Paul for $45,600.

Guitarist Joe Satriani called Paul "the original guitar hero," saying: "Les Paul set a standard for musicianship and innovation that remains unsurpassed."

In the late 1960s, Paul retired from music to concentrate on his inventions. His interest in country music was rekindled in the mid-'70s and he teamed up with Chet Atkins for two albums. The duo were awarded a Grammy for best country instrumental performance of 1976 for their "Chester and Lester" album.

With Mary Ford, his wife from 1949 to 1962, he earned 36 gold records for hits including "Vaya Con Dios" and "How High the Moon," which both hit No. 1. Many of their songs used overdubbing techniques that Paul had helped develop.

"I could take my Mary and make her three, six, nine, 12, as many voices as I wished," he recalled. "This is quite an asset." The overdubbing technique was highly influential on later recording artists such as the Carpenters.

Released in 2005, "Les Paul & Friends: American Made, World Played" was his first album of new material since those 1970s recordings. Among those playing with him: Peter Frampton, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Richie Sambora.

"They're not only my friends, but they're great players," Paul told The Associated Press. "I never stop being amazed by all the different ways of playing the guitar and making it deliver a message."

Two cuts from the album won Grammys, "Caravan" for best pop instrumental performance and "69 Freedom Special" for best rock instrumental performance. (He had also been awarded a technical Grammy in 2001.)

Paul was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2005.

Paul was born Lester William Polfuss, in Waukesha, Wis., on June 9, 1915. He began his career as a musician, billing himself as Red Hot Red or Rhubarb Red. He toured with the popular Chicago band Rube Tronson and His Texas Cowboys and led the house band on WJJD radio in Chicago.

In the mid-1930s he joined Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians and soon moved to New York to form the Les Paul Trio, with Jim Atkins and bassist Ernie Newton.

Meanwhile, he had made his first attempt at audio amplification at age 13. Unhappy with the amount of volume produced by his acoustic guitar, Paul tried placing a telephone receiver under the strings. Although this worked to some extent, only two strings were amplified and the volume level was still too low.

By placing a phonograph needle in the guitar, all six strings were amplified, which proved to be much louder. Paul was playing a working prototype of the electric guitar in 1929.

His work on taping techniques began in the years after World War II, when Bing Crosby gave him a tape recorder. Drawing on his earlier experimentation with his homemade record-cutting machines, Paul added an additional playback head to the recorder. The result was a delayed effect that became known as tape echo.

Tape echo gave the recording a more "live" feel and enabled the user to simulate different playing environments.

Paul's next "crazy idea" was to stack together eight mono tape machines and send their outputs to one piece of tape, stacking the recording heads on top of each other. The resulting machine served as the forerunner to today's multitrack recorders.

In 1954, Paul commissioned Ampex to build the first eight-track tape recorder, later known as "Sel-Sync," in which a recording head could simultaneously record a new track and play back previous ones.

He had met Ford, then known as Colleen Summers, in the 1940s while working as a studio musician in Los Angeles. For seven years in the 1950s, Paul and Ford broadcast a TV show from their home in Mahwah, N.J. Ford died in 1977, 15 years after they divorced.

The Gibson 'Les Paul' '59 Guitar

In recent years, even after his illness in early 2006, Paul played Monday nights at New York night spots. Such stars as Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page, Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler, Bruce Springsteen and Eddie Van Halen came to pay tribute and sit in with him.

"It's where we were the happiest, in a `joint,'" he said in a 2000 interview with the AP. "It was not being on top. The fun was getting there, not staying there — that's hard work."

'Off Grid'

Launches

A

New

Festival Currency!

Sunrise Off Grid joins Lewes and Totnes by launching its own currency this week. The “SOL” or “Symbol of life” is to be used for trading within the festival from 20th – 23rd August, and is produced in association with Avalon Fair Shares.

2000 notes will be printed as an experiment in using a festival currency and to raise awareness of local currency as an economic regulator and to promote community resilience.

“Off Grid is an exploration into sustainable living, consciousness and creativity. Having our own money is a great way to raise awareness of issues surrounding money and communities” Says Dan Hurring, of Sunrise Off Grid.

There are already a number of successful local currencies in existence, most notably in the UK; the Lewes and Totnes Pounds and the Brixton Brick, initiated by the Transition Towns movement, with varying frameworks for their functioning.

Economic localisation is considered to be a key aspect of the transition process and protects the local area from national and international shocks in the financial markets, the likes of which we have experienced in recent times. Local currency systems provide the opportunity to strengthen the local economy whilst preventing money from leaking out, and can function happily along side a national currency.

The benefits of local currencies include:

1) Building resilience in the local economy by keeping money circulating in the community and building new relationships

2) Getting people thinking and talking about how they spend their money, encouraging more local trade and thus reducing food and trade miles

3) Encouraging tourists to use local businesses

4) Helping to support social and environmental businesses.

(From the Transition Totnes website: totnes.transitionnetwork.org/)

The SOL notes will be issued from the ‘Post Economix’ arena of Off Grid, and will be accepted as a valid currency by all the stalls and traders at the Off-grid Festival from 20th to 24th August 2009. As with the Totnes and Lewes Pounds, the SOL will be a legitimate ‘private’ currency, which whilst having no official value outside the festival, will, by mutual consent, be treated as roughly equivalent to £1.

There will only be a limited supply of 2,000 notes, which can be acquired in issues of 5 notes in exchange for £5 sterling at the Post Economix’s stall in the Transition Tin Shed. Attendees can also request SOL’s as part of their change from any of the Off-Grid stalls and traders.

The aim of the SOL is to promote the concept of supporting the local economy - in this case the Off-Grid stalls and traders, therefore, to ensure the flow of the currency, the notes will NOT be refundable. Off Grid advises everyone taking part in this social experiment to spend all their SOL notes by Sunday evening, (unless they are wanted as souvenirs). From 6 pm on Sunday, the stall holders and traders will not give SOLs out in change - unless they are specifically asked for.

"You hold in your hand a powerful tool for economic regeneration ... Pass it round, spend it, envision the potential it embodies ..." from the original Totnes Pound.

The SOL is one of the many exciting initiatives to be found at the Off Grid event, which include an Adventure School for children and teen activities as well as workshops, talks and forums on sustainable living, community and consciousness. Along side a solar cinema and music from Seize the Day, Los Albertos, Kangaroo Moon, Ten Ton Tounge and Green Angels.

Tickets for Off Grid are still available £55 low income/cons or £75 full price, Kids £20. www.sunrise-offgrid.co.uk

ITR - A Fourth Blast in Palma de Mallorca - From ITR's Heather Carter on Mallorca Spain

Heather Carter - ITR - Mallorca/Spain/Mediterranean

A Fourth Blast

in

Palma de Mallorca

Could Be Work of ETA

From our Heather Carter in Mallorca, Spain just in/

'As you know Michael I was in Palma today and only 200 yards from where this latest occurrance took place) The area was awash with police and ambulance service within seconds of the notification) everyones very strung out down here understandably'.

Mallorca Today

Police officers entered the Nica cafeteria, located on Avenida Comte de Sallent, in the heart of Palma, to check whether the explosion was caused by accumulation of methane gas, as firefighters say, or is it the fourth device planted by ETA.

If so, it would be the fourth attack, after the three blasts that took place at different points of the Balearic capital, two restaurants located on the Portitxol promenade, The Rigoletto Italian restaurant and bar-restaurant Enco, while a third one went off in the underground shopping mall Plaza Mayor.

All occurred in the bathroom, causing light damage as they were low-strenght devices and were announced by ETA at 11:30 am hours yesterday with a call from France to Radio-Taxi Guipuzcoa.

The terrorists warned about “the placement of explosive devices in several restaurants and bars of Palma” and “to explode between noon and six in the afternoon.”

Firefighters of Palma, take charge of the investigation and affirmed that “the explosion was caused by an accumulation of methane gas in the basement.”

On the other hand, Scientific Police denied that the explosion occurred Sunday in the Nice cafeteria at 29 Conde Sallent Avenue, is attributable to a leak of methane gas, and considers the possibility that it was the fourth ETA attack.

And if it is confirmed, the bomb should have been planted days ago, for the cafeteria had been closed since Friday.

ITR - The Importance of Dreams - Kathleen Hicks - ITR-USA

Kathleen Hicks - ITR - USA

"Dreams are the Seeds of Reality In the fanciful flight of flimsy thoughts in free and easy fluttering, In the unwittingly delight of words, retained on the verge of uttering.

In the frame-less desires of dreams yet undreamed and unknown, Lay hidden the seeds from which, one day, a new reality will be grown.

In the innermost depth of the soft, silken spun cocoon, In the sun’s reflection upon the surface of the waning moon.

In the snowflake’s intricate pattern, condensed and congealed, Lay the inklings to knowledge and wisdom, forever safely concealed. In the midst of the ominous, semi-darkness of man’s mortal soul.

In the concentrated potential, at the heart of every black hole, In the hope, in the faith, in the memories long forgotten and flown, lay the rays of all the sunsets, beyond all the mountains ever known.

Yet all the rays of all the sunsets, of every sunrise, of every distant star, Will seem like hazy, hesitant glimmerings, shinning vaguely from afar. For within man, lays the potential of a force field so powerful and bright.

It would instantly eliminate the darkest darkness of every Universal night In the hope, in the faith, in the memories of every race long forgotten and flown, lay the seeds of a different reality, patiently awaiting, the day to be sown lay the potentials of a force field so powerful and bright.

It would instantly and forever change the direction of every thought’s fanciful flight.

~ Marite~

The Importance of Dreams

Why Interpret Your Dreams?

Dreams have a salutary effect (they promote good health) even when they are not interpreted. Dreams provide information about the dreamer that often is not available by other means. They provide the dreamer with information about one's current physical, psychological and spiritual condition and can be used as a diagnostic tool to discover the cause of a neurosis (mental disorders).
We all suffer from some type of imbalance, a split of the unconscious and conscious mind (complexes) that causes one to live too much in one side of the personality. The widening of the consciousness resulting from the integration of the unconscious contents (contents of the dream) through dream interpretation enhances the development of one's personality.

Simple Meanings

What has been said about the deep meaning of dreams needs to be balanced against other considerations. Not all dreams have profound psychological significance. Some are mere repetitions of the day's events.
Some dreams may have straightforward physical explanations. A full bladder may cause you to have frighteningly embarrassing dream about wetting your pants, for example.

So do not assume that every dream has a deep meaning. Not every dream will contain a life-transforming revelation - but any dream might! Even the apparently most trifling dream story may be trying to tell you something about your life. If, for example, you told me you had dreamed of an earthquake, I would generally suppose that it was indication either that your personal world was in danger of falling apart or at least you were deeply - perhaps unconsciously - fearful that it might fall apart. I would therefore want to ask you about your marriage or other domestic relationships and about your work situation.

However, I would also ask if you had recently been reading something or watching something on television that might have prompted that sort of dream. If you had just been reading a vivid account of an actual earthquake, your dream might have been a simply going over the story. On the other hand, it is likely that even dreams which take their symbols from very recent experience are using those symbols to represent something that is going on inside you.
On the whole, the truth would seem to be that if you are only trifling with your dreams, their content will tend to be trivial; if you take your dreams seriously, their content will tend to be serious and significant. If what you want from your dreams is a fuller understanding of yourself and, eventually, fuller control over your life and the attainment of your proper 'destiny', your dreams will not let you down. They will give all you need.

The Unconscious

There can be no reasonable doubt that there is an unconscious dimension in the human psyche (Greek meaning soul) or mind/ ego personality. We frequently find ourselves doing things that we did not consciously intend and that may even contradict our conscious intentions. The reasons for these actions may not be immediately apparent, but everything has a cause. If, therefore, the causes of these actions - their motives - are not conscious, they can only be unconscious. Whatever other functions dreams may have, their most important function is to reveal what is going on in your unconscious mind, the unconscious depths of your self. To ignore your dreams is, therefore, to refuse the self-acknowledge that is key to true happiness, the key to inner peace and joy, the removal of the tension that is a symptom of inner conflict, the solving of your personal problems and the establishing of a more richly satisfying mode of life.

The major and most accessible source of information about your unconscious self is undoubtedly your dreams, of which you have a constant supply. 'To sleep, perchance to dream'?
No, there is no 'perchance' about it. You dream every time you sleep. You may deny this, but you can easily discover the truth of it for yourself: just go to bed each night with pen and paper ready to record your dream, and you will very soon find that you have many more dreams than you ever 'dreamed' of. Remember that everyone - or very nearly everyone - is to some degree or another neurotic: inner conflicts, phobias, guilt-complexes are not confined to the inmates of mental hospitals. This being so, it makes sense to use any available means for getting to know about these things so as to do something about them. If a neurosis is severe you may need to consult a psychotherapist; but in most cases looking at your dreams will be enough to guide you towards fuller self- knowledge and fuller psychic health. If you get acquainted with what is going on in your unconscious, you will begin to take better control of your life. You will also feel better, your life will be richer, more effectual and more satisfying, because you are now using creatively the psychic energy that was previously going to waste.

Dream Theories

Sigmund Freud

Viennese Psychiatrist Sigmund Freud first developed the theory about the role of the unconscious on the individual. Freud believed the dream worked on two levels. A straightforward level showed events in dreams as remembered. However in the latent level objects and actions in the dreams symbolize sexual and aggressive feelings and ideas that are repressed.

So in dreams it protects the sleeper from the effects of a realization of these wishes. The dream taps into the desire for wish fulfillment when the controlling ego is relaxed during sleep.

Freud wrote "All dreams are in a sense dreams of convenience, they help to prolong sleep instead of waking up. Dreams are the guardians of sleep and not its disturbers.

Carl Jung

Carl Jung believed a dreams content uses symbolic language. He proposed that a dream expresses collective racial unconscious memories and instincts shared by all people.

These are basic ideas that are themselves symbols. These include the hero, monster, mother, father, mandala, sacrifice and the mask.

Dreams also indicate the way to self actualization. Jungian therapy in fact deals extensively with dreams and fantasies.

Alfred Adler

Alfred Adler promoted the theory that the desire for power is what drives each person.

As a child you start with a sense of inferiority. But adults tend to move forward towards goals of success and superiority.

Adler..s theory was that dreams reflected these ambitions.

Fritz Pearls

Fritz Pearls is the founder of Gestalt therapy. Pearls believed that characters and objects in our dreams are in fact projections of ourselves.

They are in fact parts of our personality that we do not accept or acknowledge as well as our view of others.

Pearls proposed that since we are the creators of our dreams then everything in our dreams must be aspects of our inner selves.

ITR - FULL STORY - ANOTHER BOMB BLAST IN MALLORCA - Heather Carter ITR-Mallorca

Heather Carter ITR-Mallorca/Spain/Mediterranean

More Breaking News as we report from Heather Carter on the Island of Mallorca/

"A little more detail if you haven't already posted - I'll type up an in depth report later today"

EL Pais newspaper said the bomb had been left in a beach bag at the restaurant on the Can Pere Antoni beachfront of the island's capital, Palma de Mallorca. The restaurant was evacuated after a taxi company in the Basque region received two warning phone calls from a person claiming to represent Eta. No one was injured in the explosion

2 Bombs Explode

on

Spain’s Mallorca

No Injuries

MADRID —Two small bombs blamed on Basque separatist group ETA exploded Sunday in downtown locations on the Spanish resort island of Mallorca, causing no injuries, the government said. Police defused a third device found nearby.

The blasts occurred just over a week after ETA killed two police officers in Mallorca in attacks aimed at striking fear among tourists at the height of the summer holiday season.

One bomb exploded in La Rigoleta restaurant on the Can Pere Antoni beachfront in Palma de Mallorca and the second in an underground passage at the central Plaza Mayor square, the government said. Officers deactivated a bomb left at Bar Enco.

Police searched a hotel on the Mediterranean island’s popular beach-front capital, Palma de Mallorca, for a possible fourth bomb, the government said.

Earlier Sunday, ETA claimed responsibility for four other bombings this summer that killed three people — including the two police officers killed in Mallorca on July 30 — and injured dozens more.

Spain’s state-run broadcaster TVE said on its late afternoon news bulletin that one bomb that exploded was in a beach bag hidden in the ceiling of a women’s bathroom in the restaurant.

The restaurant had been evacuated following two phone calls made to a taxi company in mainland Spain’s northern Basque region, El Pais newspaper said. The caller, who said he was calling on ETA’s behalf, warned of the bombs.

Mallorca is one of Europe’s main tourist destinations. In June, about 2.6 million passengers used Mallorca airport while more than 22 million passed through it last year.

In past years, ETA has often targeted Spain’s tourist industry with small bombs during peak summer vacation months in an effort to disrupt trade and force the government to negotiate with them.

Spain has vowed to crush ETA since the group ended what it had said was a permanent cease-fire with a bombing that destroyed a Madrid airport parking garage and killed two people in 2006.

In a statement published Sunday in Basque newspaper Gara, one of ETA’s usual mouthpieces, the group claimed responsibility for attacks that left three people dead and 60 injured in June and July. The attacks coincided with ETA’s 50th anniversary.

In a July 29 attack, ETA said they detonated 300 kilograms (660 pounds) of explosives packed into a van parked near a Civil Guard barracks in the northern city of Burgos, injuring 60 people including children.

The group said the attack proved police action against its members was “frustrated and sterile,” noting in its published statement that “despite the vehicle being sought by police, it was parked for half a day outside the largest Civil Guard barracks adjacent to Basque lands.”

It also claimed a July 10 bomb attack on Socialist party offices in Durango, in which no one was hurt, and said it planted the car bomb that killed anti-terrorism officer Eduardo Antonio Puelles on June 19.

ETA also claimed the July 30 bomb attached to the underside of a patrol vehicle that killed the two police officers in Palma de Mallorca.

On Saturday, the Basque regional government and Spain’s National Court banned all pro-separatist marches scheduled in the northern seaside resort of San Sebastian, which is celebrating an annual festival.

Police clashed with demonstrators late Saturday, and two alleged separatists were detained.
ETA has killed more than 825 people since 1968 when it started a violent campaign for an independent Basque state.

ITR - 'Progression From Then To Now & The Road To Kazbar' Michael Dixon ITR-UK & Global

Michael Dixon - Founder ITR-UK & Global

Progression

From Then To Now

&

The Road To

'Kazbar Systems'

'Hooker'
~The Rock n' Roll Band
You'd Love To Hate To Meet~

'History'

Way back in the beginning of modern recording technology, at a time when a multi-track was only available in major ‘proper’ studios, there was a band called ‘Hooker’ 1982 – 1985. A group of guys who had a history in music got together through the CB Radio. We were based in the Cotswold’s centered on Stow on the Wold and Chipping Norton.

This group of elder-statesmen (lol) who had learned their trades through the heady days of the 60’s and 70’s were now playing again, ‘Tarts of the Street’ I guess would have been a good name, therefore the only progression was ‘Hooker’.

'Hooker'
Live Chipping Norton Theatre 1984

‘Hooker’ consisted of Laurie Keen – Vocals/Guitar, Peter (Phred) Webb – Vocals/Drums, David Catling – Vocals/Guitar – yours truly on Bass Guitar and the fifth member, Mick Annesley – everything from Group Electrician, Van Driver, Lighting and P.A. not forgetting the support team Big Andy, Little Andy and the others who made ‘Hooker’ – it was a family affair.

We wrote mostly self-penned music and along with some classics set up the ‘Hooker Tour’ with the logo ‘The Rock n’ Roll Band You’d Love To Hate To Meet’ and we put together a show that covered a lifetime in music from School to Old Age – the show started and ended with ‘Rock n’ Roll Angina’ – we were the first band to put this complete theatrical show together, so we were told and we used links between each song – don’t believe that had ever been done before either.

Peter (Phred) Webb

However once we started doing radio and recording it didn’t take long to remember those days back in the 60’s studios, recording in one pass straight to 2-Track, the 2x 2-Track recorders in sync gave the opportunity to bounce the backing track and add a vocal or vocals and re-bouncing for the master.

It was an engineer, I heard who’d accidentally touched one of the re
corder’s reels putting the sync out that initiated ‘phasing’, listen to This Wheels on Fire’s – (Driscoll/Auger) phasing effect, purposely caused by putting 2 machines 180º out of phase.

'Hooker'

Before the introduction of reel to reel 2” multitracks, that went from 4 –> 8 –> 16 –> 24 tracks, the only way to multitracks was the two machine method although there was talk in the late 60’s of a machine that would carry 48 or 64 tracks on either 4” or 6” tape at E.M.I., though I never heard anything further to that!

Here we were now in the hands of others and working with old antiquated machines or those on their own learning curves in what would become the ‘Home’ studio. The outcome of those recordings didn’t suit, to my mind, what the music, especially our music, should sound like…
By 1985 the band was on its final legs with personal life
changes going on and commitment had other values to fall upon – like income – isn’t this always the way?

Unless you fall into the 1% of bands that hit the big time it’s always been a struggle in the world of entertainment and yet Music and the Arts – the most used in our daily lives for some reason remains the least valued!

Maybe this is why so many bands, actors and artists have and continue to live on the bread line. This seems to have changed in recent years with young musicians with ample equipment, seemingly supported by families with a higher income than those
of my generation who had parents earning between £7 and £12 per week in the early 60’s rising to between £13 and £20 by the end of that decade with just enough to feed the family and pay the rent or mortgage.

Take away Music and the Arts and what do you have – a sterile B&W world that would be devoid of Radio and TV, Film and Theatre the major mediums of entertainment consisting, I would hazard a guess, 90% Arts and Music!

My first gig back in the early 60’s was just £2.10
s.0d (that’s £2.50 GBP) in modern language and that wasn’t my wage, that was the whole bands wage packet – and this band was the Slough/Windsor version of The Blue Notes – even though they had been one of the legendry Chuck Berry’s backing bands!

Here we were like a passive missile that had run out of juice looking for somewhere to land having failed to find a target. ‘Hooker’s’ days were fast running out.

Three of us, got together at my place Touchwood Antiques 9 Park Street, Stow on the Wold for a chat about the future of the band. Those three were, Peter Webb, who had always been affectionally called Phred, and new vocalist/guitarist Ian Bramble who hailed from Banbury and myself.

'Hooker'
Michael Dixon (L) - Laurie Keen (R)

We had ideas for the future – the show had to go on but how?

At first we recorded to the band’s cheap cassette deck used for practices – it sounded ‘cheap’, thin; clunks and clicks were everywhere.

Over the weeks we set up the idea of ‘Hooker II’ – everything was in place but nothing to record on but the el-cheapo cassette deck and no money to buy anything better, even the cassette tapes had been used over many times!

Time passed by as it does in the wink of an eye and soon the three were two – we would write together under the name ‘Ten Moons Found’, now consisting of Ian Bramble and myself.
I had an Antiques business that specialized in Early English and Medieval furniture – this supported us through this time and the other band member was now living-in.

Michael Dixon
1969/70

I had been getting ‘Home & Studio Recording’ magazine (later Sound on Sound) on advice from a friend and read about a company called ‘Thatched Cottage Audio’ over in Royston, Hertfordshire. They were selling up to 8-Track tape recorders and the first Home Studio Packages.

Budget still limited and with no prior knowledge of moder
n technology I opted for a 4-Track – one of the first Portastudios, namely by a company called Cutec.

Photo's Courtesty of following Link

I had made a connection with a young lad called Rob Ferguson who had just left education and had been badgering owner Dave Simpson for a job at Thatched Cottage Audio (TCA) for a couple of years, “if my memory serves me well” ~ (Wheels On Fire… Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger Trinity) ~ sorry just had to slip that in… Rob had secured a job there and we were talking now on a daily basis by phone.

The package arrived with the Cutec 4-Track Portastudio, incredibly small for a 4-Track Recording Studio in a Box… it was at the time great but as the weeks passed by inherent clicks and pops occurred off the heads with hi-speed cassette tape causing static leaving indelible sound-prints on tape which didn’t help budding studio magnets… no puns intended.
It wasn’t long before we aspired to the next step on the ladder; Rob Ferguson was making in-roads at TCA we opted for the new Vestafire MR1.

Ian Bramble
'Ten Moons Found'

This took us up a peg we now had 6 inputs and 4 tracks to play with and we purchased the rare Tascam ‘Cobalt’ Cassettes with hubs that looked like the grown up multi-tracks which spun around beautifully inside the cassette shells.

A few weeks and multiple takes later and with every session starting and ending with the De-Magger, which gently erased any build up of magnetism on the heads, there it was again, that ‘pop’, not the Pop in Pop Music but the pop from drop-ins and from static – this time, we believed it was a combination of the spinning flanges of the Tascam ‘Cobalt’ cassettes and hi-speed of using a cassette recorder for multitracking on narrow cassette tapes, these machines ran at twice the speed of conventional cassette players.

By now we were becoming well versed with Reverb, Echoes and Compression but everything all said and done was on very unprofessional cassette tape with multiple bounces and print-through of those ‘pops’!

Now it was time to reach out for the stars – we ordered a proper mixing desk – a Seck 18-8-2 along with a Fostex quarter-inch small reel 8-track.

Of course this meant ‘proper’ wiring, and setting up.

Rob arrived with his brother from TCA with all the wiring looms and mics – desk and recorder plus patch bays and patch leads, some had to be made in-situ – out on the veranda of what was to be the fledgling Touchwood Music, (later Touchwood International Studios and Acoustics… far off days yet!) sat Rob and brother with soldering irons putting on quarter inch jacks and XLR’s.

Slowly over the months we grew, Rob instilled himself further into TCA and we were taking in clients learning in uncertain curves and many angular mistakes, but through learning came knowledge and from knowledge hunger for greater things.

My other business Touchwood Antiques was going through those ‘Thatcher’ days of borrow as much as you like and don’t worry about the pay back – it’s spend-spend-spend time and we sold a lot and spent a lot on stock and then came a certain ‘pay-back’ time!

Our annual turnover was too high – big tax bills coming – we needed to expand rapidly or face crippling ‘you-know-what’s’ and being a Limited Company we could rely on bank backup from our turnover… (don’t believe a word banks tell you – they were to cripple-dick us in later years and remember banks will tell you ‘they never lose!’ Ok so what went wrong last year?).

Rob had now gone from school leaver to managerial roll and they were adding staff daily.

Hard to believe but there’s a famous musician out there, most of you will know him from James Bond films and other films.

This was the young Dave Arnold who is also known for his; well let’s see what Wikipedia has to say:

David Arnold (born 23 January 1962) is a Grammy Award-winning British film composer best known for scoring five James Bond films, the 1994 film Stargate, the 1996 film Independence Day, and the cult television series Little Britain.

Session Fun at Touchwood International

Dave and I were fond of each other, although words were few we understood the mental mind cluck that festers inside deep minds, his deep with suppressed future music, mind with suppressed anger at equipment failures and learning curves and writing.

The day might start something like this – phone call to TCA – DA answers without saying a word – he senses it’s Touchwood (psychic I think) – I sense through my ‘Clairsentience’ sensitivity (look it up) – I say “*uck off” – his response “you *ucking *arstard I’m coming to get you”. Silence. “When you’re old enough…” an uncomfortable shift on the other end of the phone. “How you doin’? Followed by “What you want?”

Few words, and I wish I’d taken up Rob Ferguson’s offer that Dave had made that he’d wanted to work with me in the studio, well Dave now’s your chance…

I miss those days. I miss Rob and the others and of course Dave Arnold.

TCA was growing in the new world of the Bedroom Home Studio. Others joined the team including Dig White, Mark, who moved on to Sound Technology and later with MOTU (Mark of the Unicorn). TCA brought in many others who later made it in the world of music; many I’ve since lost touch with.

Touchwood Music was to spend a lot of money with TCA as we grew together in the world of very changing technologies and attitudes at the behest of the major studios, which is so evident today!
In the latter days of TCA another new fledgling, a late entrant into TCA, his name has become synonymous with and stayed the course of time, both in high end studio equipment and as a musician and songwriter, this was the talented Gavin Miller.

In time we are talking round figures of 20 plus years from fledgling to fully fledged in the audio business as musician and top-end studio equipment re-seller and all that this entails.

I’ve know Gavin all those years from the world of Thatched Cottage Audio, A.P.R.S. shows (Associated Professional Recording Studios) at Olympia in the 80’s and 90’s, through the interactions with Dave Simpson, Rob Ferguson, Dig White, Dave Arnold – the fun times from the heady days of the mid 80’s – the not-so-easy days of the last recession when businesses fell by the wayside including the legendry TCA.

'Sunrise'

The one thing that has kept us together is the bond from that time and the knowledge that if I needed anything Gavin with his connections would get it.

He never let me down, ok once or twice, but it was the impossible I was after…

The most important thing with Gavin is that he has never let me waste my money (as I did in the learning 80’s) on items he feels are not necessary or not good. He has never sold me a ‘pup’ and then asked me to take it to the Vet’s and pay someone else to fix a problem. It’s been fixed.

Gavin and Rob are friends through all the tribulations that have gone on over these years (and there have been some believe me). Still we can call each other for a chat, when we both have time and share a problem or talk about family life.

'SSL Desk'

Where’s this heading, well I’m suggesting that if you’re climbing the ladder to success and you want ‘sound’ advice and knowledgeable people to set you up then Gavin is your next point of contact.

But don’t let me be the sounding board for Gavin’s business, oh, it’s probably the right time to mention his company, the name is: Kazbar Systems Inc, I’m sure many of you in the Pro music world already know the name.

'The Kazbar Speaker'

Kazbar Systems, born out of twenty years in the studio retail industry servicing artists, studios, record labels and management companies.

After working for various small and large pro audio retailers, Kazbar founder Gavin Miller decided the time was right to go it alone in 2004 after the last independent retailer he was a manager for was brought out by a large high street chain.

Studio Furniture at Kazbar

'I never believed that it was possible to supply and support the high end of the music industry with recording equipment be it anything from cables to a full working studio within a large, chain store environment.

I believe the professional client needs and expects a higher level of service as music is their livelihood, not a hobby and when a pro musician is happy, they will recommend fellow musicians etc that is the core of Kazbar's business'.

AMS Outboard

Kazbar Systems supplies everything Pro Audio. From Apple Mac based systems with all the required software and hardware to Microphones, Outboard, Speakers, Effects, Cables, Acoustics and so on.

BREAKING NEWS

ANOTHER BOMB BLAST

IN MALLORCA

Bomb Explodes In Mallorca, Spain After Warning

Another bomb exploded this afternoon (sunday 9th August) in a beachfront restaurant in the capital of the island of Mallorca, media reported there had been a phone warning in the name of Basque separatist group ETA.

The Spanish newspaper El Mundo cited the Mallorcan ambulance service as saying. 'There were no reports of injuries'

The bomb exploded at Restaurante La Rigoletta in Palma de Mallorca after the restaurant was evacuated following a telephone call made in the name of ETA,

ETA hit Mallorca on July 30 with a car bomb attack which killed two officers of Spain's civil guard..

ETA has claimed responsibility for three car bomb attacks attributed to the armed group over the last two months, according to a statement published in Basque-language newspaper Gara.

The separatists are held responsible for more than 800 deaths in the past 40 years in their campaign to carve out an independent Basque homeland in northern Spain and southern France.

ITR - 'Fwds' We Forward-'Fwds' We Don't - Michael Dixon - ITR-UK & Global

Michael Dixon - Founder - ITR-UK & Global

'Fwd's' We Forward

&

'Fwd's We Don't

Sometimes We Have To Let Go

Into The Hands of Destiny

A Forward I did… You may feel the same.

I get hundreds of 'Forwards' these often are minor fun or sometimes plainly annoying with the amount of emails I get daily.

Occasionally one comes through that touches the emotion in a form of reminder of my insignificance in the order of things and in the same moment touches the giant in me. The following is one of those.

This came from my friend Michael Gogin in Hollywood, California.

I'm passing this on for the sentiment is something we all need to learn - it is not how big or small we are, nor how rich or poor. It is not about how perfect we are, nor it is about our imperfections.

It is not about religion nor faith but it is about our core belief.

It is not about our dreams nor our reality but about our daily lives.

It is about what we are aspiring to achieve for in every moment there is a miracle we might be missing and that miracle is the true destiny
of your soul - Acceptance of all not just the Ego Self.

I thank Michael Gogin President of Los Angeles Chapter of LPA for sending this as a reminder of my own imperfections and yet my own inner-beauty that I often fail to see that others, apparently do.

Michael Gogin - ITR-WCT - USA

May I see the beauty in everything. I hope your feel the same way too and in your own way, if you feel as I did, you may decide to send this to those you care about.

With Love

'Breakfast at McDonalds''

This is a good story and is true, please read it all the way through until the end! (After the story, there are some very interesting facts!):

I am a mother of three (ages 14, 12, 3) and have recently completed my college degree.

The last class I had to take was Sociology.

The teacher was absolutely inspiring with the qualities that I wish every human being had bee n graced with.

Her last project of the term was called, 'Smile.'

The class was asked to go out and smile at three people and document their reactions.

I am a very friendly person and always smile at everyone and say hello anyway. So, I thought this would be a piece of cake,
literally.

Soon after we were assigned the project, my husband, youngest son, and I went out to McDonald's one crisp March morning.

It was just our way of sharing special playtime with our son.

We were standing in line, waiting to be served, when all of a sudden everyone around us began to back away, and then
even my husband did.

I did not move an inch.... an overwhelming feeling of panic welled up inside of me as I turned to see why they had moved.

As I turned around I smelled a horrible 'dirty body' smell, and there standing behind me were two poor homeless men.

As I looked down at the short gentleman, close to me, he was 'smiling'

His beautiful sky blue eyes were full of God's Light as he searched for acceptance..

He said, 'Good day' as he counted the few coins he had been clutching.

The second man fumbled with his hands as he stood behind his friend. I realized the second man was mentally challenged and the blue-eyed gentleman was his salvation.

I held my tears as I stood there with them.

The young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted.

He said, 'Coffee is all Miss' because that was all they could afford. (If they wanted to sit in the restaurant and warm up, they had to buy something. He just wanted to be warm).

Then I really felt it - the compulsion was so great I almost reached out and embraced the little man with the blue eyes.

That is when I noticed all eyes in the restaurant were set on me, judging my every action.

I smiled and asked the young lady behind the counter to give me two more breakfast meals on a separate tray.

I then walked around the corner to the table that the men had chosen as a resting spot. I put the tray on the table and laid my hand on the blue-eyed gentleman's cold hand.

He looked up at me, with tears in his eyes, and said, 'Thank you.'

I leaned over, began to pat his hand and said, 'I did not do this for you.. God is here working through me to give you hope.'

I started to cry as I walked away to join my husband and son. When I sat down my husband smiled at me and said, 'That is why God gave you to me, Honey, to give me hope..'

We held hands for a moment and at that time, we knew that only because of the Grace that we had been given were we able to give.

We are not church goers, but we are believers..

That day showed me the pure Light of God's sweet love.

I returned to college, on the last evening of class, with this story in hand.

I turned in 'my project' and the instructor read it.

Then she looked up at me and said, 'Can I share this?'

I slowly nodded as she got the attention of the class.

She began to read and that is when I knew that we as human beings and being part of God share this need to heal people and to be healed.

In my own way I had touched the people at McDonald's, my son,the instructor, and every soul that shared the classroom on the last night I spent as a college student.

I graduated with one of the biggest lessons I would ever learn:

UNCONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE

Much love and compassion is sent to each and every person who may read this and learn how to:

LOVE PEOPLE AND USE THINGS -

NOT LOVE THINGS AND USE PEOPLE.

There is an Angel sent to watch over you.

In order for her to work, you must pass this on to the people you want watched over.

An Angel wrote:

Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart

To handle yourself, use your head..

To handle others, use your heart.

God gives every bird it's food, but does not throw it into its nest.

ITR - Every Town in England Needs a Chief Like This - Michael Dixon ITR-UK & Global

Just in all the way from an ITR member working in Cairo Egypt - interesting where the news reaches!

Thank you Allan G for your input.

Every Town in England

Needs a Chief Like This.

A maverick mayor elected after promising to slash council spending, clear the streets of yobs and ditch politically correct services is the torchbearer for how towns should be run.

On his first morning as Mayor of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, Peter Davies cut his salary from £73,000 to £30,000 then closed the council’s newspaper for "peddling politics on the rates".

Now three weeks into his job, Mr Davies is pressing ahead with plans he hopes will see the number of town councillors cut from 63 to just 21, saving taxpayers £800,000.

Mr Davies said: "If 100 senators can run the United States of America, I can’t see how 63 councillors are needed to run Doncaster".

He has withdrawn Doncaster from the Local Government Association and the Local Government Information Unit, saving another £200,000. Mr Davies said, "They are just talking shops".

"Doncaster is in for some serious untwinning. We are twinned with probably nine other cities around the world and they are just for people to fly off and have a binge at the council’s expense".

The mayor’s chauffeur-driven car has also been axed by Mr Davies and the driver given another job. Mr Davies, born and bred in Doncaster, swept to power in the May election with 24,244 votes as a candidate for the English Democrats, a party that wants tight immigration curbs, an English Parliament and a law forcing every public building to fly the flag of St. George.

He has promised to end council funding for Doncaster’s International Women’s Day, Black History Month and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History Month.

He said, "Politicians have got completely out of touch with what people want.

"We need to cut costs. I want to pass on some savings I make in reduced taxes and use the rest for things we really need, like improved children’s services".

Mr Davies has received messages from well wishers across the country and abroad as news of his no-nonsense approach spreads.

Now it’s your chance to spread this most sensible way to run a town council.

ITR - URGENT PETITION UK VITEMIN DELETION TO PHARMACEUTICALS - Michael Dixon ITR-UK

Michael Dixon - Founder ITR-UK & Global

This has just been sent in from an ITR-UK member who received this from Pepsi Demacque-Crockett - here in the UK we are about to lose our Freedom in Choice as to sourcing Vitemins and Minerals, which will leave us exposed to Internet buying without 'actual' knowledge of what we are purchasing from unknown or credited suppliers again leaving the uninitiated exposed to possible dangers.

I strongly concur that UK residents and those overseas with a residence in the UK to go to the Petition link below and register against this happening.

How much longer will we have any freedom once the Pharmaceuticals take over - simple really in conspiritorial terms - world domination... we each have the right to choose - this is democracy.

Michael Dixon
Founder ITR-UK & Global

Please - Please - Please

Sign the Petition

This Is CRAZY

Please sign IMPORTANT Petition against Codex Alimentarius (it just means Food Code - the latin name is just meant to confuse us or think its not to do with us, but it will affect everyone)

Dear Friends,

I know some of you will be familiar with this, for others you may not be aware of what pariiament is about to do in your name. Codex Alimentairus is a law designed to hand over the control of natural remedies to the pharmaceutical giants. One more attempt to regulate us - with potentially dire consequences. Unless we take this last opportunity and act now we will not be able to buy vitamins or health/nutritional supplements without a doctor's prescription - they will be banned from 31st December 2009.

You may think this can't happen, you may think why haven't I heard about this before. The reason is that there are vested interests, giant multinational pharmaceutical companies, and its not in their interest that you know about and oppose this. They and our lawmakers in Europe are banking on public apathy. Despite considerable pressure already exerted our government is still planning to implement this law - UNLESS THERE IS MASSIVE OPPOSITION IT WILL GO AHEAD.

Like many health and safety matters this was started with good intentions, in 1962 by the United Nations, to establish international free trade foods but has become a major threat to our civil liberties and freedom of choice.

As the song says: YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'VE GOT TILL ITS GONE

Please, sign the petition to the Prime Minister . . It takes 10 seconds! This is for our health, and well-being and the health and well-being of our children. Please click on this link below ...

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Vitamins/

For more information google opposition to codex alimentarius or look on facebook and you'll see that the threat is very real and opposition is from people from all walks of life, in many countries

Australia's Megan Jones and Kirby Park Irish Jester continued their strong form at Kihikihi today in the HSBC FEI World Cup Eventing qualifier.

Angela & Angela - Sister Act...

The combination made light work of a cross-country track that saw the fortunes of many other riders change.

They finished the day on their dressage score (38.1 penalties) with a 2-rail advantage going into the show-jumping to win the first prize of $23,500 - the largest prize ever offered in New Zealand for eventing.

Olympic silver medallist Megan Jones (AUS) and her home-bred Kirby Park Irish Jester proved invincible when they led from start to finish at the first HSBC FEI World Cup™ Eventing qualifier of 2009 at the Mitavite International Horse Trials at Kihikihi (NZL). Jones enjoyed an impressive 10-penalty margin over last year's winners, Heelan Tompkins (NZL) and Sugoi.

Unanimous judging

18 starters came before a ground jury comprising Jim Dunn (AUS), Bill Phiskie (NZL) and Joan Matheson (NZL). They were unanimous in placing Jones in first place with the only sub-40 mark after a relaxed and professional test which gave her a 3.4-penalty margin over her Hong Kong team mate, Shane Rose (AUS) on All Luck.

Change of Order on Cross-Country

Jones continued to impress on cross-country day, making light work of John Nicholson's (NZL) demanding course which famously features a 'Winnie the Pooh' theme. Jones was one of four riders to complete within the optimum time which was to give her a two-fence advantage for the final jumping phase.

Fires Rage

Canary Island

Canary Islands - Fires at La Palma Island

BBC World News

A huge forest fire is out of control on the island of La Palma in the Canaries, forcing the evacuation of up to 4,000 people, including tourists.

Military aircraft are fighting the flames but firefighters have been pulled back from the worst-hit areas because of the intensity of the flames.

But since then they have been aided by a slight drop in temperature and a change in wind direction.

Spain's government has promised to help those affected by the fires.

Some residents were saved just minutes before fire engulfed their homes.

Video #1

Several dozen homes in the town of Fuencaliente were gutted.

There are fears the flames could spread to an observatory housing the world's largest telescope.

The Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory has been operating for more than 20 years, and a new telescope was inaugurated last month.

Fresh teams of firefighters have been brought in from other parts of the Canary Islands, and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero has also arrived in La Palma to inspect efforts to tackle the fire.

He said an "appropriate decree regarding aid" would be approved at the next cabinet meeting on 13 August.

The fire is thought to have been caused by a stray firework let off during local fiestas.

Firefighter Tackles Blaze

BBC Photos

Some progress has been made in combating the fires after temperatures eased slightly, but a fire close to the town of Mazo - a popular tourist destination - remains out of control.

TV pictures showed flames metres away from villages in the Tigalate area, where a major containment effort is under way.

Water-dumping planes and helicopters managed to keep the flames away from the homes, but residents were forced to evacuate.

Video #2

Tourist impact

British holidaymaker Cath Watkin said the fire came dangerously close to the hotel where she was staying.

"We experienced extremely hot, searing winds, and then woke up in the early hours of Saturday morning to very, very thick, choking smoke from the fires, extremely hot outside," she said.

"The fire was actually very close: the hotel is actually at the bottom of the mountain, the fires were raging on the mountain behind the hotel."

Dozens of tourists have been unable to catch flights home because of road closures.

La Palma is a small, relatively undeveloped island, with a resident population of about 85,000.

It is dominated by a dormant volcano, and is renowned as one of the greenest of the Canary Islands. But its lush vegetation has been seared by the high temperatures of recent days.

Smaller fires have broken out on other Canary Islands, including Tenerife and Gran Canaria, but are expected to be brought under control soon.

Horse Makes Fair Appearance

Despite Poisoning Scare

Saturday, August 1, 2009 5:25 PM

While on vacation in Pennsylvania in late-June, Carol Tufts of Plain City received a call that her son's Breeding Stock Paint Quarter Horse was showing signs of a serious illness.

The news frightened Carol because abdominal pain can be a killer of horses.

The owners of the stable where Levi, Josh Tufts' 4-H horse, is boarded, admitted they had sprayed Roundup along the fence line to kill weeds.

"He could have eaten poisonous weeds or the Roundup," Carol said. "We don't know what did it for sure. We wouldn't know that unless we had a biopsy."

Unlike most horses, Levi tends to eat things that are bitter. The 1,200-pound horse is known to eat hundreds of daisies, while most horses shy away from the perennials.

Another frightening thought crossed Carol's mind. She had a horse die from liver disease and the symptoms sounded similar. When Levi's liver enzymes were tested, they were at 950. Normal enzyme levels for the horse are 50.

Unable to express his suffering, Levi kicked the wall of the stable bruising the coronary veins in his legs.

Her greatest fear at the time was that the 7-year-old horse would not survive, let alone be well enough to show at the Union County Fair less than a month away.

The veterinarian paid regular visits and 15-year-old Josh kept trying to work with his horse once they were home.

Toxins in Levi's system caused his nose to burn from being in the sun. Carol said all of the white parts of his body were susceptible to the burning.

They had to pack all four heels, because they were scabbing over. After talking with several other horse owners, Carol learned that toxins leave the body through the feet, which accounted for the scabbing as it leached out.

Josh, a student at Fairbanks High School, said he wondered if his horse would live and was trying to figure out what caused the health condition.

A member of the Trail Blazers 4-H Club, Josh has been riding for as long as he can remember.

"My mom rode Judge when she was pregnant," he said of his mother's Paso Fino mare. Carol said three days before she had a C-section, she was riding her horse.

The Tufts bought Levi when he was 5 years old. "He is a very needy horse," said Carol. "If he could crawl up in your lap, he would. He is more of a dog than a horse."

Last year during the fair, Josh said Levi threw him while he was in the arena when a child ran up to the fence and frightened the horse.

Although he sometimes finds his horse to be annoying, Josh said he would not trade him. He continued to try and work with Levi to get him well. One day it was suggested he try climbing on Levi.

Josh could feel his horse tremble under his weight. He got off for a while and then tried it again later and that time the horse's legs buckled underneath him. Everyone was shouting for Josh to get off of Levi, causing Josh to panic, and the horse to get "spooked" or frightened.

"He dragged me around a little bit," said Josh.

Afterward, Levi tried to make up to Josh.

"He is not well trained, but he is a sweetheart," Josh said. "He lays his head on you and tries to hug you."

Four days before the fair massage therapist Dianne VeHorn arrived at the boarding stables to work with Levi.

Carol said she thought it was rather "voodooish," but they were willing to try anything that might help Levi.

Carol had given VeHorn few details about the poisoning, but told her about his legs. As VeHorn worked with Levi, she began telling Carol what happened. "She was amazing," said Carol.

After an hour and a half of massage therapy, Carol said, Levi was turned loose and was "flying" around the arena with 90 percent extension of his legs.

"It was a one-day wonder," she said. "That was four days ago."

Much to their amazement, Levi was well enough to travel to the fair. Josh entered him in the trot/walk competition, so as not to push the horse too hard, letting him recover from the poison that was in his system.

Much to their amazement, Levi was well enough to travel to the fair. Josh entered him in the trot/walk competition, so as not to push the horse too hard, letting him recover from the poison that was in his system.

ITR - Alberta Music Fest Shut After Deadly Storm 1 Killed Many Injured - Leila - ITR-Canada

Alberta Music Fest

Shut After Deadly Storm

1 Killed Many Injured

The Storm
THE CANADIAN PRESS

CAMROSE, Alta.–Construction cranes replaced country music fans at the Big Valley Jamboree in Alberta today, as workers cleaned up after a devastating storm that smashed into the main concert stage, killing one person and injuring as many as 75 others.

The concert bowl caved in after wild winds hit the popular annual festival in Camrose, about 100 kilometres southeast of Edmonton, around suppertime on Saturday.

Friends told CTV Edmonton the dead woman was Donna Moore of Lloydminster, on the Alberta-Saskatchewan boundary, and that she was killed when an enormous speaker fell on her.

Concertgoer Metro Gordey said he and another man tried to pull the woman from the wreckage.

"Her back was up, I rolled her over, she was all blue," he recalled on Sunday. "I put my hand on her leg, the other guy put his hand on her leg, and we could not feel any pulse."

Festival organizer Panhandle Productions Ltd., said two people were still in critical condition in hospital on Sunday.

Officials said about 21 of the dozens of people who were injured had to be taken to medical facilities for treatment.

At a news conference on the site Sunday, officials made it clear that the storm struck with very little notice.

"RCMP informed us at at 5:55 p.m. about unconfirmed reports that a possible tornado had touched down in the Nisku area (just south of Edmonton), said Camrose police chief Darrell Kambeitz. "We had people on the stage at 5:57 p.m., and the storm struck between 5:57 p.m. and 6 p.m.``"

Producer Larry Werner said his office also got a call saying a severe windstorm was heading directly for the venue.

"At that time I ran for the stage from our production office. (Nashville musician) Billy Currington was in the process of wrapping up his set and we immediately let him know he had to get off the stage so we could announce to the crowd that we had to clear the concert bowl."

Werner paused Sunday when reporters asked him what he would say to people who thought there should have been more notice.

"What do you say?" he asked. "We worked with what we had to work with. I wish nobody was hurt. I wish it never happened. It did, and now we have to deal with it."

Werner said producers have had to shut down the concert three times in the last 17 years. "The procedures followed for those weather fronts were the same as the procedures followed (Saturday)."

Neither Werner nor Kambeitz could say immediately why the structure failed, or how long it would take to get answers. Provincial officials are helping with the investigation.

Thousands of fans screamed and sought cover as the storm broke on the third day of the four-day festival.

"We said we better get out of here, so we were all racing for the exit," Lori Trelenberg of Sherwood Park, Alta., said Saturday night. "It was devastation. It was strong and powerful. The stage just sort of crumbled."

CFCW radio personality Danny Hooper had been preparing to introduce an act when the winds started to howl. He was advised to warn the crowd of an approaching storm, but only managed to get out a few words before the stage was hit.

"I can't describe the sky – it was brown and purple and green," Hooper said. "The massive wind blew me backwards."

Hollywood actor Kevin Costner and his band, Modern West, were getting ready to take the stage at what is billed as Canada's largest country music festival when it caved in. Costner's manager, Nick Meinama, said both he and the actor were caught beneath the stage, but neither was hurt. One of Currington's band members was not as lucky – his arm was badly broken.

Heavy rain fell for about an hour as emergency crews treated the injured and combed through the wreckage for survivors. The site was cordoned off by police as searchers worked through the night under blazing spotlights.

Police asked the estimated 15,000 concertgoers, who had pitched tents and parked RVs, to remain on site Saturday night to avoid a panic and traffic snarls. Most retreated to their campsites to talk about what happened or to party.

Organizers did not officially declare the concert over until early Sunday.

The storm set social networking sites buzzing, with fans and other musicians offering condolences and support.

The Oak Ridge Boys sent this message on Twitter: "Our prayers are with the Big Valley Jamboree. We have been there six times, including last summer. We know these folks."

Environment Canada had issued a thunderstorm watch for the area Saturday and a similar watch remained in effect across much of central Alberta on Sunday. Forecasters noted that a line of thunderstorms marching across the region had the potential to produce high winds, hail, local downpours and lightning.

Conditions were eerily similar on the Civic Holiday long weekend 22 years and one day earlier, when scorching weather spawned a giant tornado that ripped through Edmonton, killing 26 people, injuring about 200 others and causing widespread devastation.

Saturday's severe storm system was also blamed for the death of a toddler in Calgary. High winds blew a six-metre piece of metal from an 18-storey building under construction. It fell on a group of people on the sidewalk below, killing the little girl and injuring two others.

Crop Circles Re-Appear

Near Wilbur

Crop Circle nr Wilbur USA Photo NBC Affiliate KHQ, Channel 6

WILBUR, Wash. - Farmers west of Spokane are used to growing grain, but now they're part of a growing mystery in the wheat fields of one farm.

Craig Haden noticed the circles last Thursday while riding a motorcycle in the area.

"I didn't know what to think," he said.

Haden called his son and farmhand to check out the damage.

"I think it's wild," said Trey Coffman, a farmhand who works for Haden.

Coffman, Haden and Haden's son Braidy searched the circles for shoe prints or evidence that could lead them to who, or what, was responsible. All they found was crushed wheat.

Haden said the circles caused about $400 in damages to his farm. He says he won't be able to harvest the crop that was smashed to make the circles.

"If you have them popping up all over that's a lot of loss for farmers," he said.

This is the second time that crop circles have appeared in the Lincoln County area. A farm on the other side of Wilbur reported crop circles in their field two years ago.

That crop was greener, according to Haden who said it was still harvested.

The circles were found about 300 yards south of the Highway, hidden from passing traffic.

Haden says it would have been a significant hike into the area to make the crop circles but admits it would be possible.

"It sure took a lot of time, whoever did this," he said.

Haden said he plans to ask for $400 in damage to his crops if he ever finds out who is responsible.

Crop Circle discovered in Wilbur Washington

The Following is an Investigative Report by the Seattle Museum of Mysteries:

The Directors of The Seattle Museum of the Mysteries, Charlette Lefevre and Philip Lipson, were informed of a crop circle in Central Washington by Peter Davenport of the National UFO Reporting Center. Accompanied by Weird Science facilitator Bill Beaty, the Directors spent Independence Day July 4, 2007 exploring this recently discovered crop circle near the town of Wilbur, Washington in Lincoln County West of Spokane.

The heart of the crop circle is a large circle surrounded by four medium circles which are connected to four smaller circles. According to the National UFO Reporting Center, the crop circle was first reported on Friday June 29th by a man who works for a local agricultural chemical company in WIlbur. An aerial
photograph was taken on Sunday July 1st By Peter Davenport and Greg Leyva, a local crop duster.

According to a neighboring resident Pat by July 4th, the area had already been visited by several hundred local townspeople.

The neighbor also related there had been search lights in the sky “as bright as car lights” Wednesday night June 27th. The neighbor believes the crop circle developed Tuesday night. Another local related also she believed the crop circle formed Tuesday night as it was discovered Wednesday.

A number of local people interviewed by Lefevre and Lipson believed the crop circle to be legitimate relating a history of odd lights in the sky and odd behavior by animals on their farms in the nearby town of Almira.

Features - Legitimate or Created?

The formation is approximately 150 feet in width and length.

Stalks of wheat grain are laid down flat against the ground.

The circles swirls are counter-clock wise (looking down) in the
Central ring, and in the eight outlying circles. The center of
Each circle could be classified as typical of a “bird nest” swirl.

A geiger counter reading did not indicate any unusual radioactivity.
No electromagnetic anomalies were detected.

As far as it is known this is the first crop circle seen in the state of Washington since Chelhalis in 1996.

The Seattle Museum of The Mysteries is awaiting additional research on and planning an exhibit with actual wheat stalks from the circle.

ITR- NewFlas-Perpetrators Named For Mallorca Bombing - Heather Carter ITR-Mallorca/Spain/Mediterranean

Heather Carter - ITR-Mallorca/Spain/Mediterranean

In Depth news Reports

Perpetrators Named

For Mallorca Bombing

ACCORDING to a last minute report, the police have identified the two terrorists suspected of carrying out yesterday’s attack in Calvia and have the names and photos of the suspects which they will be handing out and posting in the area in hopes locals will be able to assist in their capture.

Two Guardia Civil officers died in yesterday’s attack in Palmanova. A car bomb exploded outside the Guardia Civil barracks in the town, which is also near the fire station, at approximately 2pm. The bomb was placed under a Guardia Civil patrol car and the victims are the two officers who were inside it. Several people were also injured.

This was ETA’s second attack in just over 24 hours, after a massive explosion occurred outside the Guardia Civil barracks in Burgos yesterday, leaving some 50 people injured and causing considerable damage to nearby buildings.
It is believed that the terrorists who perpetrated the Mallorca attack, may have a safehouse on the island where they are lying low until police vigilance lessens.

However, following the attack, the authorities closed Palma port and Son San Joan Airport in a bid to capture the terrorists in what they called ‘Operacion Jaula’ (Operation Cage), causing chaos for holiday-makers arriving at the island as all the planes arriving are being ordered to turn back to their departure points. Traffic to the port and airport was gridlocked. The island's other port in Alcudia in the north of Mallorca remained open but with a heavy Guardia Civil security presence. Later yesterday evening, the Palma port and airport were reopened and police presence remains increased. More than 86,000 passengers per day visit Son San Joan airport every day, but it is believed the terrorists may have arrived on the island by ferry, as security isn’t as tight at the ports.

The area where the explosion occurred is barely 500 metres from a busy beach area popular with tourists and just a few kilometres from the Palacio de Marivent where the Spanish Royal Family normally spend their summer holidays.
The car under which the bomb is believed to have been placed, which was parked outside the barracks, was completely destroyed in the explosion. Investigators believe it was activated by remote control, and have not yet confirmed whether it was under, on top of, or just placed near to the vehicle which had been parked in the area since 10am. As the device was activated from a distance, another possible hypothesis is that the terrorists may have fled the island some time, even days, before the bomb exploded.

The Home Secretary, Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, has visited the area and expressed his condolence to the families and colleagues of the two deceased officers.
Guardia Civil TEDAX (Specialised Technicians in the Deactivation of Explosive Devices) officers, detonated a second car bomb which was found in a Nissan Patrol vehicle parked near the old Guardia Civil barracks, close to the site of the first explosion. Shops and offices were closed and residents evacuated from their homes before the controlled detonation was carried out.
National Security forces had been on maximum alert for more than one week, as it was feared that ETA would carry out an attack coinciding with the terrorist group’s 50th anniversary on July 31. French authorities had warned that the group had stolen three vehicles in France which they feared would be used to carry out attacks.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office, is warning on their website of a high risk of terrorist attacks in Spain, adding that ETA attacks indiscriminately and may target tourist areas. It points out that although the Spanish authorities are aware of the danger and do everything in their power to protect visitors, tourist must be on their guard.
The two deceased Guardia Civil officers have been named as Carlos Saenz de Tejada Garcia, born in Burgos in 1980, and Diego Salva Lezuan, born in Pamplona in 1982, both officers had Mallorca as their first destination.
Carlos had been destined to the island just three days earlier although he had been training there for just over six months. One of his cousins lives opposite the Guardia Civil barracks where the attack was carried out on Wednesday, his home was destroyed by the explosion although the family was on holiday and no-one was injured.
Diego had been living in Palma for one year, but it was his first day on duty.
The colleagues of the two young officers are devastated.

In ETA’s 50 year history, they have murdered 206 Guardia Civil officers. Yesterday’s is the group’s ninth attack this year.
Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and the opposition leader, Mariano Rajoy, have both travelled to Mallorca to pay their respects to the deceased officers and offer their condolences to their families. Their coffins are currently at the Almudaina Palace in Palma, where Zapatero posthumously awarded both officers the golden cross before their families, the President of the Balearic Government, Francesc Antich and the President of the Partido Popular in the Balearic Islands, Rosa Estaras, as well as other prominent political figures.

The Duke and Duchess of Palma de Mallorca, and the Duchess of Lugo also came to pay their respects this morning. The chapel will be open until 12.30pm, when the officers’ remains will be taken to Palma Cathedral where the Archbishop Monsignor Juan del Rio Martin and the Bishop of Mallorca, Monsignor Jesus Murgui, will hold their funeral, which will be attended by the Prince and Princess of Asturias.
At 12pm and 7pm, locals have been called to demonstrate against these acts of terrorism at Calvia Town Hall and in Palmanova.

The Royal Family is due to arrive in Palma on Saturday, so security surrounding them was already high, but the Guardia Civil will decide in the next few hours whether to increase measures.
ETA had never before managed to perpetrate a deadly attack in the island, but it is the only place where, on two separate occasions, they had tried to kill the King of Spain. July 30 is also the 18th anniversary of their first attempt to kill on the islands. On that occasion, there were two explosions, which injured several and caused extensive material damage, and a third one was prevented. ETA member Jose Luis Urrusolo Sistiaga was sentenced in 2005 to 41 years in prison for this attack.

The first attempt to kill the King was in 1995, when Juan Jose Rego Vidal, Iñaki Rego Sebastian and Jorge Garcia Sertucha intended to use a high-precision rifle to shoot the monarch from a nearby terrace when he was aboard the Fortuna yacht. If this failed, their intended victims were the Prince of Asturias or the Prime Minister at the time, Jose Maria Aznar. All three terrorists were arrested on August 9 of the same year.
The second attempt was planned for Easter 2004, and the intended killer was Javier Perez Aldunate, but apparently he didn’t receive the rifle in time to perpetrate the attack. He was sentenced in 2006 to 35 years in prison for several crimes, including his attempt to assassinate the King.

It was discovered that ETA had been following another Guardia Civil officer in Palmanova last year, recording all his movements, apparently planning to make him the Balearic Islands’ first victim. Also in 2008, a vehicle which had been used by ETA members was found to contain and extensive photo report of Palma Port.

The local barracks were advised to increase safety measures in the area as it was obvious ETA was planning to attack, and the lack of security may have been exactly why this area was targeted. There was no device to prevent bombs from being activated from a distance, as there are as most barracks, which were opened in 2007, and this had been the reason for frequent protests from the officers destined to the area. There were no security cameras or patrols to control the perimeter. The old barracks, where the second bomb was found, did have all these measures, but they were often not in use. Both were destinations for young officers.

Tour operators and hotels are expecting short term cancellations and are calling for people to stay calm. An attack like this could seriously damage the reputation of the Balearic Islands, considered to be a safe and tranquil holiday area, away from the danger of attacks such as these, although it is expected that tourists will not be put off coming to the island.
